It is based in Cape Town, Western Kate County, South Africa. Founded in 1829 as the South African College, it is the oldest university in South Africa and one of the oldest African universities, and its most prominent alumni are:

Ralph Bunche: American diplomat, won the Nobel Peace Prize 1950 for his role in concluding the armistice agreement in 1949 between Israel and the Arab ring countries.
Max Tiller: A virologist awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1951 for discovering a yellow fever vaccine.
Alan Cormac: He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1979 for his research on computed tomography (computed tomography).
Aaron Klug: He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1982.
John Maxwell Quetri: He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2003.

2- The University of the Witwatersrand

Also known as the University of Wits, located in the northern regions of the city of Johannesburg, it is the third oldest university in South Africa and is still operating until now after the University of Cape Town and Stellen Bush University.

Among the university graduates, a number of those who received the Nobel Prize in various fields such as:

Aaron Cluj: He won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1982.
Nadine Gordimer: He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1991.
Sydney Brenner: He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2002.

3- Makerere University

The oldest higher education institution in Uganda and the second oldest. The university was first established as a technical education school in 1922, and it remained so until it became part of the East African University in 1963. Then it became an independent national university in 1970 when the East African University was divided into three independent universities: University of Nairobi in Kenya, and Dar es Salaam University in Tanzania , Makerere University.

Today, Makerere University consists of 9 colleges and one school for students, and generally accommodates an average of about 30,000 college students, and 3,000 graduate students. The university has brought out a group of prominent African officials and scholars, including the former Ugandan President and the first President of the State of Tanzania.
