SETI@home as a screensaver feels like a different internet age — millions of idle PCs quietly doing science for no reward at all. The contrast with today is sharp: the same GPU power now goes to AI training or mining because there is money in it. Do you still run any BOINC project now? With home electricity prices as they are, I suspect cost, not interest, is what killed the habit for most people.

It was a different age and our current machines are so far ahead of what we had then. I had not considered these projects for a while, partly because of the cost, but having solar changes the equation as my energy is much cheaper and I generate more than I use for a lot of the year.
