Positive Thought Strategies
We have finished our provincially supplied Math program and have returned to working in the Grade seven Canadian Curriculum book. Math is hard for some of us and so we have to work year round to keep up. Right now, we are woking on surface area. There are a lot of steps to solve each problem and clear and positive mind is needed to make it through and solve each of the problems.
Below are some strategies for maintaining a positive mind for math and for life.
Avoid exaggeration - When I dislike something, like Math, I won’t say that I hate it. I don’t really hate it. I just don’t like it as much as other things.
Accentuate the positive - Sometimes Math is hard, but I like the projects. I have to learn the basics to be able to do the projects. So when someone asks me if I like Math, I will say I really like doing the projects.
Accept imperfections in yourself and others - I won’t point out or tease others about when they make mistakes. In Math, I will remember to try hard and concentrate on doing it and not finishing it and remember it is okay to make mistakes. You have to make mistakes to learn.
Replace criticism with encouragement - I will give people more compliments and keep my negative opinions to myself. I will also give myself more compliments and recognize when I have done a job well or improved at something.
Chose the brighter side of things - Assume others mean well and that way you will take things in the best way
Forgive and forget - Don’t dwell on negative things that happened in the past. Forgive those you have to forgive and find a way to put the best light on things.
Learn from your mistakes, but don’t criticize yourself for them. Remember other people are not perfect ether
Be grateful - Always say thank you to others for the things they give and do for you. Take time every day to appreciate all the good things and people in your life.
