Putting a Pause on Civilization.

Courtesy of the sensitization I got from movies during the inception of AI, I was so terrified of anything pertaining to it. One could even say I was technophobic. The stereotype always revolved around AI getting wiser than its developers and eventually conquering the world. They don't just conquer but they rule like tyrants and make humans their slaves.

For a person who had no prior knowledge of AI and who wasn't a big fan of technology, I got very skeptical. Could the stereotypes be true? It took proper research and a brief pep talk from a Hivean(a random stranger who read about my fears) to convince me that AI isn't as bad as we make it seem.

Purpose of Creating AI?

I believe AI was created to mimic human intelligence in the early days. Researchers aimed to create machines that could be as intelligent as humans but with a “turn-off” option. Imagine creating something with an IQ higher than average, something you can control to carry out both your good and bad Giddings without asking questions? I can't exactly tell whether these researchers had good intentions or not but this was the reason they let out to the public.

Do you think AI is making any positive impacts in the Digital World?

Yes. Although with the advantages come disadvantages.

Over the years, Artificial Intelligence has grown into various areas of life with the aims of assisting, automating tasks and improving efficiency. Life has basically been made easier with the help of certain AI as AI has been known to assist humans in various ways ranging from data analysis, language translation, customer services, entertainment and research.

Common AIs that humans interact with are Siri(Apple), Google assistant(Google),Google Maps,Waze, facial recognition and biometric authentication (fingerprint recognition) ,translators and smart watches. Some companies even use chatbots for their chatbots services. I remember recently having an issue with my back and I moved over to lay my complaints on the bank app. If I didn't have to lay the complaint twice on different occasions, I wouldn't have known I was communicating with a chatbot and not a human. The communication was seamless to a degree.

Still on the topic of improving efficiency, if we want to be honest with ourselves, we'd realize that certain areas where humans have been found to be less efficient, an AI with no emotions and no ability to tire out, would thrive. I spoke with a Data analyst the other day and she said that the introduction of AI has made her jobs easier. All she does is input the commands and the AI does the analysis for her. Although she's great at what she does, it takes less time to produce accurate results and this to me is what delegation of duties should be like.

The idea behind the creation of AI is a good one but in a world where good things can be easily used for evil, we can never be too certain. If given the opportunity, I wouldn't put an end to artificial intelligence because at the moment, its advantages far outweighs the disadvantages and putting an end to it would be like putting a pause on civilization.

I’ve heard so many stereotypical opinions about Ai. You know, about how they would eventually conquer the world and make us slaves.

The truth is that, although Ai has its dangerous sides, there’s no doubt that it has transformed human lives in so many ways.

And I agree with you on this. I only hope it continues to do so.

This is why AI cannot totally mimic humans
It has no emotion. It was built and if it was asked to go this way, it will keep going that way
AI cannot think. It is good but to an extent
