Hello there my fellow coin enthusiasts and history buffs! Hold onto your hats because there's an exciting new addition to the coin world. Drumroll, please... It's the shiny, fresh-off-the-press £2 coin dedicated to none other than the incredible Ada Lovelace. This coin is making waves as the ninth gem in The Royal Mint's beloved, and one of.my favourite sets, the Innovation in Science series. If you're familiar with this series, you'll know it's featured big names like Stephen Hawking, Alan Turing, Edward Jenner, and Alexander Graham Bell on previous coins. Being a "mad scientist" myself, you can tell that this series is right up my street...

Now, here's the twist that sets this coin apart from its predecessors: it's not your typical 50p coin. Nope, this 2023 UK Ada Lovelace £2 coin is shaking things up as only the third £2 coin in the series. And get this, it's only the second time they're giving a nod to an incredible woman in the field of science, following in the footsteps of the awesome Rosalind Franklin 50p coin that dropped in 2020.

Let's talk design. The back of the Ada Lovelace £2 coin is a real work of art, thanks to Osborne Ross. It's like a window into history. They've drawn inspiration from the actual input cards that Lovelace used to program the Analytical Engine. Cool, right? And the icing on the cake is the inscription "a discoverer of the hidden realities of nature." This little nugget is actually from a heartfelt letter Ada wrote to her mom. Talk about a personal touch!

Ada Lovelace's story is a powerhouse combo of genius and collaboration. She teamed up with the visionary Charles Babbage, who's also a star in the Innovation in Science series. They had their heads together, working on Babbage's Analytical Engine, an early ancestor of the computer we know and love today. Lovelace wasn't just crunching numbers; she saw something incredible in those gears and calculations. Her insights gave her the title of the very first computer programmer, and Babbage playfully called her the 'enchantress of numbers.' Pretty cool nickname, right?
