Don't Tell Me It Can't Be Done

Tell me how we can make it happen.

For the last few years I have been obsessed with finding a way to access the internet without having to pay for it. I have seen videos that show using magnets on USB sticks and soldering wires to connect from one object to another. I have also seen how people do something similar to old sim cards.

None of which have I seen anyone familiar with tech test in a reliable way. Yet I'm not giving up.

I have a collection of old phones I have saved in the process of buying a new phone only to use old phones as storage or gaming devices.

I was going through the collection a few months ago to find a suitable device to use for reading pdf books. I came across...

This has a cracked screen and I believe until I took it apart the first time it would have continued to work.

Only this time I notice the battery had swollen. I definitely know it will not work anymore so I took it apart again to see if I could identify anything that would possibly help in my quest to use old out of service devices to access the internet. After all it is just an invisible signal tech savvy people have learned to harness and sell access to.

So I ask anyone who reads this post and might have knowledge, can you help me identify anything?

I know the camera. Although I'm not sure what is to the left of it.

I removed the board to see what was underneath. I'm thinking there is nothing on this plate that is usable but correct me if I'm wrong.

And this last image is where I removed the aluminum covering to see what was under it. I could not take the frame off for fear of bending it out of shape.

I watch electronic videos from time to time and do learn some things but others it takes a while for me to grasp the information.

I would absolutely love to connect with people who have knowledge about this kind of stuff. I see no reason to add to a landfill when we can use our brains to recycle, up cycle and create diy projects from old unused items.

What ever happened to the satellite dish we go for you? You know the one Art and I had to go take down just so you could make your own free internet. Have you even bothered to try and do something with it or did you just toss it out?

I was happy when I saw the bee badge. I had been trying for a while to get it but gave up thinking I wouldn't.
😁😁

As far as opening the phone, it was the only option outside of throwing it away and that was not something I wanted to do knowing it could somehow be useful. 😁

Thanks for taking the time to read.

You're welcome

I've been also trying to get that badge and it seems our prayer was answered the same time 😅

We all have the curiosity. Some just have to find it.
Asking questions is all it takes.

No worries, we can learn together. Had you ever looked inside a device before?

Mobile parts just seem so
Confusing to me , where and from where to connect is unpredictable by me (haha)

... I have no clue how to connect to the internet for free, other then finding an open hot spot like i.e. https://freifunk.net/en/ or some international equivalent.

Yet here is a video that found me recently and I love how and what this youtuber shows to do with electronics.

I !LUV this stuff. I just need soldering tools for some of the projects. I was looking into pcb reverse engineering but could not find the schematics for this particular board.

I won't give up though.

I wouldn't say it's impossible but it's probably close enough not to matter. At least with a cell network. I'm not sure the exact mechanism cell phone companies use but I'm sure that your sim card provides some encrypted info to identify itself. Either your sim is whitelisted by their network or it isn't. If it isn't, then you don't get access. So the only way I can think of would be to clone a sim that has access. In which case you are really just stealing someone else's service since all whitelisted sims presumably belong to a customer. And if you want to do that, it would be easier to steal a neighbor's wifi (though that doesn't give you mobility).

Of course, most cell phones and tablets also have wifi and there are still a multitude of places that give that away (Starbuck's, McDonald's, many of your average department stores, etc.).

Back in the old days of the Internet, NetZero used to offer free dial-up...

I've been doing some digging and discovered rfic. No that is not a typo. I will explain it more when I get my next tech post done. I have a lot of stuff I'm working on right now so I'm doing what I can when I can.

I would like to know if you've been able to take a 5g mobile apart yet, I'd like to know if they have the 5g chip in there; for awhile it was stated by working IT techs that there was no chip in those.
The only major question for me would be to wonder if that was when they first came out, or continued, or didn't even apply.
I like the technology, and it looks like you should do this for a living! So what if you mess up a few phones in the process of learning hahahahahaha!!!!
Wonderful post @wanderingmoon
