Are males better than females ? YES !!! πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜€

The average woman would rather have beauty than brains, because the average man can see better than he can think. - Mark Twain

With that shallow approach, can males really be termed better? Also - females always more beautiful than males?

NO is the answer to both questions. In the avian world, males are sometimes stunningly more beautiful than the females...

I have come across many examples of the male birds being truly awesome ,,,

blog title.png

While a lot of bird species are not so dimorphic (males appearing very similar to females), in some birds, the difference is very stark. Males carry a vibrant color and pattern while the females are relatively very drab...

Here are a few examples:

Asian Paradise flycatcher:

The male is really beautiful with it's long graceful forked tale and prominent head crest..

_DS15319-ON1-FULL (FILEminimizer).jpg

The lady, in comparison, looks quite ordinary with a short tail...

_DSC8347 FB 1048 (FILEminimizer).jpg

Not only does the male have more grace, to top it all, they also can have a lovely white morph.

My entry for #SMaP 160

Due to its angelic white color and graceful long tail, this is one my most favorite male birds and hence, my entry for #SMaP 160

Red avadavat

You have seen the following pictures of the Red avadavat in my previous posts but I am including here again to point out a major example of dimorphism in a species of bird.

The male looks so impressive with its fiery red color and dotted pattern...

_DSC7478_DxO FB 1080_1.jpg

Mrs. Red avadavat is not even Red actually. She sports a sort of pale yellow and grey coat.

_DSC7553_DxO FB 1080_1.jpg

Her bright red beak, as if she has put on lipstick, is the only saving grace n her appearance.

Streak throated woodpecker

The male carries a flamboyant red crown and sets him apart from the rather drab black capped female...

_DS14931-ON1-FULL (FILEminimizer).jpg

The female is nowhere close in terms of the pattern on the body and her color is too, a bit pale.

_DS14512-ON1-FULL (FILEminimizer).jpg

Do you agree?

Pea-fowl

The male Pea-fowl, the Peacock is the ultimate in handsomeness in the bird world. Sporting a classy head crown and a long tale with shimmering green/blue feathers, adorned with an attractive eye like pattern, this male never fails to catch the eyes of the world...

_DSC4461_DxO FB 2048 (FILEminimizer).jpg

The Peahen, by comparison, is so very drab that I have never even felt like clicking her picture. She totally lacks the tail and has none of the bright blue coloring on the body either.

I realize that I should not discriminate based on beauty in my wildlife photography but to me, photography is all about capturing beauty - so, apologies for missing out this one.

I will correct my mistake and by the time @nelinoeva challenges us to show female birds, I will hopefully have a picture of a Peahen too.πŸ˜€

That is all I have for now on this subject. So - tell me, do you think males are better than females? At least in appearance in Bird community?πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

Please feel free to comment and let me know your views. Also - please let me know if you liked the clicks.

Without a doubt, male birds are more beautiful than females, it can clearly be seen in the photographs of examples that you have shared. What beautiful species of birds you have there.

Your photos are absolutely stunning and so beautifully presenting the colourful avian world.
Truely these male birds are very attractive and when their apperance is combined with songs and dances they know how to make the females to fall for them. πŸ™‚

Wonderful post as always, thank you so much again for your entry!

@nelinoeva Thanks. Yes - males in general always are good at song and dance to make the females fall for them. Little do they realize that they are the ones taking the fall.... LOL Just kidding. πŸ˜‚

@thebigsweed Thanks. Am glad you liked the clicks and the quote. Indeed, Mark Twain was a brilliant man. It is sad that fewer and fewer of the younger generations seem to be appreciating the classic writers these days.

You are welcome. The younger generation needs to get their eyeballs away from their phone and pick up a book on occasion!
