Getting smarter without a smart phone - Part 3

DSC_0000056.jpg

This is part 3 in a series about living without a smartphone and it pretty much follows from smart to smarter with a 'dumb' phone and getting smarter by ditching my smartphone, where I described how throwing my so called 'smart' phone away with the trash ( metaphorically, that is ) is more Good riddance! than some of you might think.

In case you missed it, you might want to read up on the spontaneous seaside (day)trip that turned into 3 days... that Clare and I set out on, last Thursday

No longer owning a (working) smartphone sure has freed up a lot of brain power.

And - more importantly - in the last two weeks or so, in which I haven't been able to revive my old ('smart') phone, nor the previous one that died the same sudden death ( they lasted about 6 years together ), my brain has slowly but steadily started rebuilding its neural pathways and I am getting better and better at thinking and decision making by myself, unlike ( no offense ) seems to be the case for the majority of people.

I have also gotten even better than I already was at living intuitively, moment by moment.

The previously mentioned seaside trip is a good example of that.

Although I have to say that it helps a lot to have a woman like @clareartista on my side, who - like me - knows how to live a life based on freedom, sovereignty and choosing feeling over (over)thinking, among other things skills.

Now I could make this a very long post, trying to sound smart arse ass or backing my findings with so called 'science' ( which I don't believe in much, these days, and even less since 2020 ) but I would like to take it easy on my brain cells and minimize screen staring, if I can help it.

Even though it's fair to say that I much rather stare at my laptop screen than at a cellphone. In all honesty, I hardly do the latter, since I received my (not) dumb (at all) phone, 2 weeks ago. There's not much staring to do at a dumb phone. Some phone calls and text messages and basically not using it much, at all, is pretty calming to the mind.

Not unlike staring at the sea...

Black Hole Sun aka my new phone trying to capture the sun(set).

And here it is trying to take a picture on Mars...

You gotta love those pre-photo filters! No post-production possible on my phone ;<)

And thus continues my journey towards increased health.

And, although I know a bunch of people are probably slightly frustrated over me connecting less with them...
What about you @inuke ? - wanna play some chess and text chat on chess.com ? I'm up for it. @drrune How's life! I'm doing great, just no longer on Telegram...,

...I sense that they might actually be 'secretly' jealous of my increased freedom.

The same goes for those who still aren't investing in Bitcoin, even though I have been telling them about it for 7 years now. Or those who are still stuck in jobs they hate and so on and so forth...

Anyhow, there's always more ways to connect. Ways of connecting that are less 'lazy' and might seem challenging at times but so much worth it.

And no, I really don't miss Whatsapp or the ongoing family chat that I have been part of for over a decade.

A phone call every now and then with family members and/or friends or actual real life meet ups feel 10 times better, plus I don't need to overload my brain with noise, all the freaking time and then do a deep cleansing, over and over again.

Feeling good!

What about you? Have you considered ditching your smartphone or using a dumb phone every now and then to disconnect from the noise of the world and reconnect with yourself?

Staring on the laptop or phone screen gives me headache
I mostly develop headache when I’m on the screen all the time

That makes sense. Our eyes are made to look into the distance, that's why looking at nature, the horizon, sunset, etc. feels so much better.

I'll take my hat off to you for that. That wasn't the case for me when mine was still working.

If it's freeing up space in your brain, increasing your brain capacity and helping with making the right choices, then you made the right decision ditching your smartphone. I think 'smart' phones make us less smart because we depend on their 'smartness' and forget to use our own. The photos might be low-res but there's a quality to them that's scenic. All the best.

It may well turn out that you're the smartest one of all, unfettered by the inevitable 'phone bone' neck injury lol

Haha!

Fun fact: In Dutch we call the bone we sometimes hit ( and starts ringing ) when we hit our elbow, the phone bone ( 'telefoonbotje' ) but I guess you are referring to something else here ;<)

lol..yep, awhile back there was some story going about the news here for people to be wary of growing a 'phone bone' lol. They said it was a little bone spur that grew out from the base of your neck where it joins the spine. It was from too much screen time. We made great jokes about it and haven't heard mention of it since lol

I'm going to use 'telefoonbotje' the next time I hit my elbow, so it will confuse my family :D

After reading your post I think it’s time to ditch mine. As far as I can remember I have never gone a whole day without my smartphone. Lately, my phone blaring with notifications makes me wanna scream “You all leave me the hell alone!”.

Phone calls are so much better than text! Obviously Whatsapp makes voice easier and cheaper but hey...

Vive LA dumb phones!

Hallo, bro! I'm glad life is getting even better for you. I guess we'll keep in touch through here. I'm awesome right now, doing my work, building my own authority upon myself and acting as a guardian when necessary. Blessings to you and also to @clareartista!

I wanted to go back to my dumb phone. Nokia 1100. No MMS support, No camera, No Internet, No Annoying app notifications. Just phone calls and Messages.
But the reality is my job requires me to be connected with the system either through a laptop or Smartphone.
Whatever it may be this is what life is serving me now. Maybe I will have a chance to choose again sometime in future.

BTW, I am back to Chennai. And got transferred to a Tier2 city. Will be travelling soon. I am excited about the new place. While this means I have to pack all my stuff up and hunt for new place to stay. I am looking forward to exploring the new city.

As for chess. I will start a game tomorrow. It's been long due.
♥️☮️

Keep rocking my friend.
And keep getting smart with a dumb phone.
✨✨✨✨
