I want to do a simple test with you. The events that will be described below happened few weeks ago.

1. I want you to be honest and think about how many of these major newsworthy events you were aware of.
2. I want you to remember the news you were aware of during the same time period
3. Then I want you to honestly wight and evaluate the importance of those news events.

One can argue that the news presented to them in the above video are not very important to them. You may not be living in USA and does not care about Biden Impeachment or how political opponents of the current regime like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Donald Trump are treated.

There is the other argument that knowing these pieces of news may not have changed your decisions when looking back. One could claim to have not missed out on any important news.

This is Not "Only" About You

Billions of people watch news and many of them are affected and guided by the news they see. You live in a society with these people and unlikely to escape the consequences created by the mainstream media. You live in a society and that society will be influenced (but not fully controlled) by media.

The other fact is that you are going to come across news in one way or the other. I came across information about Titan submarine through YouTube recommendations and people in my life talking about it. Most of the discussion and news coverage did not achieve anything productive. It did not change the lives of most people who came to know about it.

These pieces of information can take up your memory and in some cases, people end up thinking about news events far more than necessary. All that cognitive energy and memory could have been used on something productive. They could have learned about a new subject or start learning a new language or be spent on exploring STEM problems.
