Retrospecting on Baron's Bounty Promo Event 1 Week After Prizes

avatar

It has been a week since the BTC Halving Promo that came with $100K in prizes + Promo Cards and Titles for @splinterlands players. These Titles can be used to boost production in Praetoria. The Promo Cards are eligible to participate in Rebellion Conflicts. I was only interested in Barron Fyatt and I have 1 Gold Foil and 1 Level 3 Regular Foil (3 BCX) that made me rank 274 in the leaderboard.

I participated on the first day without an intention to join back later. I knew I didn't have enough cryptocurrency left with me after the beating I took during the bear marketing.

41% Short Term Profit At The Event

The article linked above covers the immediate aftermath of my participation. Due to the Gold Foil Barron Fyatt, I was already profitable. These Cards have been a part of Rebellion Conflicts soon after being bought.

Prizes at The End of Event

I was very happy to see a Plot as a prize. It is one of the second best prizes after the 20 Runi that was being given away. This is the 58th Plot I have in Praetoria. Instead of selling at the market prize, I preferred to try my luck and see what I can survey after claiming. I had already been the process 57 times before and it was a breeze go through.

Claiming + Surveying in Praetoria

I sold one of my Plots around the time the price peaked close to $1,000. Only 37 of my Plots are active due to my inability to gather enough DEC for the task. I have had above average luck with my surveys. This is how the latest turned out to be:

Price Comparison

Most of the value is in Mythic Plots and then the Legendary, Occupied and Magical Plots. The advantage of Natural Plots is their liquidity. Whales are usually not going to be enthusiastic at selling their expensive asset this early in a bull market. They are likely to have enough funds to get them through for the next few months.

I could have gained more if I had sold the Plot Claim I had. These are similar to Booster Packs. Their price is speculated based on the average value of what can be gained by opening/surveying them. What these sellers don't get to enjoy is the rewards that are generated from Land. I can make more than $4 with a Natural Rare Plot eventually. All I lack at the moment is some DEC.

Card Price Fluctuations

There are many factors that affect the prize of Cards. As these factors (hype, supply etc.) change, the prices can move all over the place. When the event launched, the prices for Baron Fyatt Cards I owned were $90 for Level 3 Regular Foil and $160 for Level 2 Gold Foil.

Current Prices After End of Issuance

There are no other Cards added to the market after the end of the event. The existing supply is going to further decrease due to users Leveling Up Barron Fyatt. These are the required BCX for Max Level:

  • Gold Foil needs 4 BCX
  • Regular Foil needs 11 BCX

This is a drop down from $250 to $198.13 which is a 20.75% drop. Inclusion the price of the Plot, the overall value of Promo Event participation sits at a $234.129. Now allow me to quote my previous article:

If I had paid in CREDITS, the cost would have been $218.75. What I had to spend was around $177. I was already up by 73 dollars right after the purchase. This is a 41.24% increase in value! Please not that the prices fluctuate and often fall down as more Cards keep entering circulation.

What this means is that I am sitting with a 32.27% profit after everything has been concluded. If it wasn't for the Natural Rare Plot, the ROI would be 11.93%. These are good numbers for such a short period of time. I'm looking forward to far better times for @splinterlands by the end of the year.

Happy Gaming! Happy Investing!

Looks like the Halving event was quite profitable for you. A GFL and a plot is a really nice end result!

Those who didn't manage to get a Gold Foil or Prizes are at a loss. Having a significant investment is a must to remain profitable in these events.

I only bought two rares, level 1. I would have gotten 1 because I want to always own a reminder from these Halving events, but with 2 I had 1 chance to win something. Didn't win anything, but I'm still ok with it.
