Diesel Pool Earnings, Getting Lucky With Staking Multiplier and Waiting for Soulkeep

In software development, there is a rule that say "The first 90 percent of the code accounts for the first 90 percent of the development time. The remaining 10 percent of the code accounts for the other 90 percent of the development time.". We are going through that remaining 10% of development.

There are many changes happening in @splinterlands even at the delayed rate. We should have had resource production in Praetoria by now. Soulkeep should be getting close to launch. Yet there is very little buzz about either of the releases at the moment. This is the nature of software development. We should have expected this. The developers are not wizards no matter how hard they would like to perform magic with their code. The more I learn about coding, the more I realize how difficult of a job it is to create and expand one of the most used DAPPs in the entire world.

Soulkeep is a Mystery for Now

There has been no Dev Diary since May. I can say that I enjoy most of the art I have seen from the game. I have 111 Nightmare Packs (110 bought and 1 won through The Great Burning). This is not sufficient to get me a sneak peak into the gameplay. I am 389 Knightmare Packs too short. At this time I have bigger priorities like Land Expansion to invest in. Soulkeep is more of a side hustle for @splinterlands IMO.

I do not hang around Discord to find out about all the little details. They are going to see the light of day on some day. I am willing to wait. If you have experience with the closed beta or know someone who has posted about it, I would appreciate any comments or links below the article.

The important part is that the Cards and other @splinterlands assets will have a new use case. There is no need to make a killer DAPP. We already have one with the main game + Praetoria. Diversification into different niches is a great way to built up resilience to varying market conditions.

Results of Investing in DeFi

These are not large investments by any means. I am simply using some of the idle cryptocurrency in my wallet to make some additional income without locking myself in long term staking of 4 weeks or higher. The lack of fees on HIVE-Engine makes the entire process a more pleasant and attractive one. I cannot wait to experience feeless smart contracts on Koinos when they build a vibrant DAPP ecosystem.

Diesel Pool Investment Over The Months

My current Diesel Pools are providing liquidity for the following assets:

  • SPS
  • DEC
  • VOUCHER
  • SWAP.HIVE

@splinterlands is paying me a much higher interest in SPS compared to what is offered for SPS staking which is only 17.28% at the moment of writing. After some tough time amidst Binance FUD, SPS did manage to perform good today. Whether this performance can be maintained in the bear market is very uncertain.

Historical Earnings from Diesel Pools

Most of my DeFi investments are in $CUB and $POLYCUB and both are suffering over 99% losses. I still believe in the projects and sleep well without any concerns despite five figure losses. Diesel Pools didn't get enough investment from me because I was distracted with @leofinance

Getting Lucky With Staking Multiplier

I was first confused by seeing a multiplier almost close to the maximum limit. It was far above what I expected based on few simple calculations I had made. Only later that I saw that the Guild Bonus is counted in.

The old system is to be regarded as fixed at a 10X multiplier. Refer to this article for more details.. Anyone earning more than 10X is benefiting after the changes made in the middle of the Season. I like having the UI changes that came along with the update that give a more explicit estimate of the Focus Points. The negative side of the update is that some player could decided to leave the game discouraged by the new changes.

Any game is going to have some churn. It is the long term performance and sustainability that is most important. Hearthstone had reached 100 million players by 2018 and had 20 million active players in 2020. These are the numbers I compare @splinterlands against. It is the best comparison we can have based on everything I have seen.

Use @peakmonsters for Statistics

The screenshots you are looking at are from their Dashboard that give up to date data which anyone can collect due to the transparent nature of cryptocurrency projects. Anyone with technical knowledge can verify without having to trust a a random report from years ago. Traditional games on Web 2 do not come with such transparency.

Generally Optimistic For The Future

Most of the updates and even the delays have worked out favorably for me. For an example I have had more time to get my resources ready for the workers in Praetoria. I cannot expect the same from all the future updates. It is like opening Reward Chests or Booster Packs. Sometimes you get to be lucky and sometimes the results are not so great. I have experienced both.

Managing good and bad luck is one of the most significant parts of managing a portfolio. Anybody can have a lucky streak. A consistently built wealth that last long time in spite of all the things world throws at you is a rare thing.

Happy Gaming! Happy Investing!
