Security devices are increasingly in demand worldwide. With advances in technology, it is expected that these will include AI as part of the system.

Having a security system that can identify who is behind the door is essential in these times. This time we will talk about the change that Amazon has made in Ring subscriptions.

Obtained from Amazon official site

Ring is an Amazon doorbell that includes a video camera. Depending on the membership one has, it will have different functions. For example, Ring Protect Pro users prior to this change had access to local video storage, backups that are uploaded to the internet, and Eero security features designed to prevent any type of cyber attack.

Another change that will be made is that customers without a subscription to Ring Protect Pro will be additionally charged $10 per month for the alarm monitoring system. Since these changes have not been well received, Amazon states that Ring Protect Pro users will have a one-year trial membership to Ring Home Premium.

What is special about this subscription? It is a service that will feature 24/7 video recording, with the unique aspect of having the benefits of artificial intelligence. The launch is set for November 5, initially for the United States. It remains to be seen if it will reach other regions such as Europe.

The subscription price will be $19.99 per month, but there are other more affordable services, which are Ring Home Standard and Ring Home Basic. However, they will not have the aforementioned features. In my opinion, it is a price that may be worth it at some point if one is looking for the peace of mind of security.

A particular feature of Ring Home Premium is the Smart Video Search function, powered by AI. It will allow users to find a specific moment in a recorded video by simply querying the Ring app about what they are looking for, and the system will accurately locate that moment.

According to Amazon, it will be possible to use intelligent search with general type keywords commonly encountered in daily life. For example, queries about animals, places, packages (presumably mail), people, vehicles, and more. It will also take into account actions like jumping or running. Over time, they will seek to improve searches, avoiding offensive queries.

It seems that Ring is a great success, becoming one of the most widely used devices in the United States for prevention and security purposes. According to the Parks Associates firm, a market research and consulting company, Ring has become the second largest seller of security systems in the U.S. region. It is worth noting that Amazon had acquired this company for $1 billion six years ago, and it is now representing net profits.

As a security system, it is something many would like to have in their homes. Amazon is committed to continuing to improve these devices alongside the functions each subscription can offer to the customer. One thing we can say is that AI will continue to evolve, adapting to customer desires and providing security, while also respecting each individual's privacy. Simply fascinating.
