Alan Clarke leads Ford's low-cost EV Project | Ex-Tesla Exec

The appearance of electric vehicles (EV) meant a starting point to begin reducing costs, improving efficiency, and reducing environmental impact. There is no doubt that this will be part of the future, although I cannot guarantee that it will be a direct replacement for those that use fuels or gas.

It is interesting to know how these vehicles work. Their main interest is to be much more environmentally friendly as they do not generate emissions that are polluting. They generally include a lithium battery that is managed in the architecture of the vehicle, providing the necessary power and autonomy for a pleasant trip.

Everything indicates that the world is preparing for these vehicles to circulate everywhere, as there are more and more charging centers to supply them with electric energy. If we use Google Maps, we can see that, although in the case of my country, most of them are located in an area centered around the capital.

Alan Clarke is a former executive who worked at Tesla on the development of advanced vehicles, and in my opinion, has experience in building autonomous vehicles. With this, I want to indicate that his knowledge and experience are crucial for the project he is currently leading to prosper.

Ford Skunkworks is a project that has the great peculiarity of developing low-cost electric vehicles. We commonly associate these vehicles with high prices or being unaffordable, but that is about to change very soon.

Ford CEO, Jim Farley, provided specific information about the creation of a low-cost platform for the development of these vehicles through a Skunkworks team. Basically, we are talking about a team of engineers who belonged to AMP (Auto Motive Power) and who were selected by Clarke after its acquisition in November 2023. It is also worth noting that AMP founder, Anil Paryani, is working on the project alongside Clarke, who had a 5-year experience together at Tesla.

The project is expected to lead to the development of small, cost-effective electric vehicles. That is at least the idea of the project, as it requires the installation of a flexible and functional platform, managed by the world's best engineers.

This means that many models of electric vehicles could be developed on this platform. Additionally, there will also be a foundation for installing software and offering services under the commercial designation "Pro."

It is common to think that the company is seeking to manage its investments and revenues in a better way. For this reason, they will take into account three types of units: the first one being the aforementioned, followed by hybrid business models (those that have a supply of electric power and fuel) and pure electric models.

In my opinion, I believe that for the time being we will be seeing a lot more hybrid vehicles than fully electric ones. The fossil fuel market is huge and therefore difficult to want to change the trend towards this other type of energy, so internal combustion engine cars that combine electric properties will be the most used technology from now on, at least for the remaining of this decade.

According to Ford, in the fourth quarter of 2023, the company had an income of 46 billion dollars, a 4.5% increase compared to the previous year. This year, profits of between 10 and 12 billion dollars are expected, while seeing some substantial increases in stocks that could go up to 6.3%.

Electric vehicles no longer seem to be a novelty, although it will still take some time for them to become the majority and a standard when it comes to driving. However, an approach to this technology would benefit us all, including the ecosystem we live in; our planet Earth.

No doubt about it! It will be a matter of time before more brands reach this market and offer a high quality end product.
