Only 0.55% voted for the Microsoft shareholders proposal to invest in Bitcoin. Proof that we are still very early.

Was sagt ihr dazu?

Big surprise at the Microsoft Annual Meeting, only 0.55% voted in favor of the proposal to invest in Bitcoin.

The idea was to consider investing a very small portion of Microsoft's cash reserves in Bitcoin instead of bonds for example.

In my opinion, this would make perfect sense for a tech company like Microsoft, both from a financial and technological point of view, but the Board of Directors and the major shareholders apparently see it differently.

I was surprised that the percentage was so small, I would have expected the vote to be closer, at least 10% in favor for example.

What are the possible reasons for the rejection?

Firstly, you have to bear in mind that the vote is stake-based. The bigger the stake, the more voting power.

But even more important is probably the recommendation of the Board of Directors, which had previously spoken out against it with the pretext that the risk would be too great.

There are also many vocal opponents of Bitcoin among Microsoft's major shareholders, such as Vanguard and Bill Gates.

BlackRock and Ballmer, on the other hand, I would have expected to be more in the pro-Bitcoin camp. But apparently they also voted against it, as the percentage in favor was so low.

Interestingly, all other shareholder proposals were also rejected by a clear majority. A proposal to do a report on “AI Misinformation and Disinformation” received only 18.67% of the votes. The “Human Rights Hotspots” proposal got 32% and failed too.

What do you think? Why did so few Microsoft shareholders vote in favor of the Bitcoin proposal? Or is it a generational issue?

Most of the shareholders believe in real assets so they did not vote to invest in Bitcoin.

Crazy that there are such great divide with the people who believe in crypto and those who dont.

And I'm no expert but sure looks like $BTC is kicking fiats ass right now 😅

i think its the generational issue. they just couldn't accept crypto. they will surely regret it later on.

At the moment the price of Bitcoin is quite high, so it is not worth investing. They will also wait for the bear market and then invest money.

0,55% is so low and unexpected for me... Well Microsoft has made a lot of bad choices... They will regret it

I never even expected much of the shareholders to vote in favour of BTC. Like you said we are still too early, BTC has not been that widely accepted and financial institutions and governments are still resisting it. Forget about a pro-crypto incoming US president.

Perhaps those shareholders would prefer to invest in Bitcoin directly.

This is too poor
I just feel we as a crypto community need to do better and I hope they review this voting process

I think it's because most of the shareholders are old. They don't trust crypto as it's new and they prefer to do things based on what they know. So it's a generational issue.

Only 0.55%, the baby boomers must be still reluctant to seize the opportunity, we'll see if the X-gens after them be more willing to get in.
