EV Charging Connectors: Tesla US vs EU Regulation 😂

avatar

Was sagt ihr dazu?

English

The standardization of charging cable connections for electric cars in the EU is quite a mess.

Instead of agreeing on a uniform direct current charging standard worldwide, as is the case with USB interfaces, the EU has rushed ahead with its own charging cable standard.

The standard is called Combined Charging System (CCS) Type 2, IEC 62196, and is typical EU regulatory overkill. Ugly compared to the elegant design of Tesla in the US.

And over-regulated. There are two different Type 2 connections in the EU, one for alternating current (single or three-phase) and then an additional connection for direct current, which should actually be the standard for electric vehicles.

The conversion to direct current should be done by the wall box or the adapter, then e-cars could have the same charging standard worldwide, which would make sense.

What do you think? How do you like the regulation of e-car charging connectors in the EU? Successful regulation or a rushed ugly standard?

No doubt another cluster**** by the EU. That or there was a company of some friends that would produce this crap and now they profit from it.

No matter how US stand for, it is really great to see that they are putting all effort to make it work

I don't care at all about e-car problems, I don't plan on buying one probably ever in my life if possible.

the charging connector in EU looks heavy. they should just copy Teslas charging connector

does it mean e-car is using AC and DC? ohh its just like gas and diesel. but i agree with you, e-cars should have charging standard worldwide.

yes, the EU connector could use AC for charging too, but in fact it's not really necessary, since the wall box could convert AC to DC anyway.

maybe the EU just want their connector to look cooler or maybe to have a bit more robotic look.

i dont have an e-car but i think i would prefer the tesla connector since it look like a plug and play connector and i think it is much lighter than the EU connector.

They only delay the inevitable. In the end a standard will be imposed and it will not be yours.

I love Tesla charging connector
It is small and light
It won’t be heavy

Why must the EU make everything so complicated lol honestly is the USA that has their own system that complicates things it's so crazy how this stuff isn't standard. Went to Europe once and half my stuff wouldn't work 😂

It sounds like a huge mess and I think they should make a good standard connector. I don't exactly think the government is the best choice to make it and I think it needs to involve the EV makers.

The Tesla USA is not really going forward like that due to bad regulation against them

I think for simplicity it should be standardized. It's like phone chargers, why have so many different ones making it hard to find a replacement if you can have one standard for everything. Just my thoughts anyway!
