Apple Vision Pro is allegedly heavy, not as lightweight as thought, no controllers for games? Why AR does not make sense at the moment (Hint: weight)

Was denkt ihr?

Augmented Reality 😂

In the meantime, some Tech-YouTubers like mkbhd were able to test the Vision Pro briefly and described their first impressions.

Vision Pro without controllers for games?

The controller-less mode via eye and hand tracking is supposed to be particularly fascinating. The eye tracking in particular is said to be awesome. The headset recognizes exactly which button you are focusing on with your eyes and the icon is selected with a flick of the finger.

However, the controller-less philosophy also has a drawback. It's ideal for controlling fitness apps or launching a game or app, but for many games it would simply lack the feel and buttons of a controller.

Imagine a shooter without a (gun) controller. I can't. The Xbox Kinect had the same problem. Ideal for fitness apps, but without haptics, games aren't as much fun.

Vision Pro is heavy, battery cable could get in the way.

Another first impression is rather disappointing for me and that is that the Vision Pro is supposed to be relatively heavy. Although the battery is attached to an external cable, the headset might be heavier than expected due to the built-in technology and the "high-quality" materials.

According to rumors, the Quest 3 will also be rather heavy.

The Apple headset is also likely to be front-heavy, as it has no counterweight, and the external battery could even prove to be impractical, as the dangling cable and lugging the battery along could be annoying.

Already see alternative straps that attach the battery to the back end of the headset to balance out the weight 😂

AR doesn't make sense right now

Personally, I don't find the AR focus that exciting right now, as I don't want to spend hours with heavy (and hot) diving goggles on my head augmenting reality via pass-through and two-dimensional "iOS"-like apps.

However, you have to think a few generations ahead here, should VR goggles eventually become super light, perhaps reaching the format of sunglasses or contact lenses, then AR might make sense after all.

Until then, I remain more of a fan of VR than AR.

What do you guys think? Is targeting VR headsets as pass-through AR headsets and desktop replacements with 2D mobile apps a mistake that both Meta/Facebook and Apple are making?

Heart about the metaverse, and VR, but they I think are failed to make an impact, on the other side, AI, made an impact and everyone is talking about it.

That's a great comic! I agree, in a few years they will become much lighter and usable, but not possible quite yet!

I was actually thinking that I was the only one that the AR does not make sense to at the moment

Surely, $3500 is a lot of money. But it's a Pro version so it's understandable. But it's heavy, which is really something they need to look into if they want to cater to a wide range of people.

I don't know if the weight will be decisive, what I wonder is what its usefulness is, besides being one more tool for games.

Great. I also wants to get this one day. Hope so.
I wants to try this. It will be great to experience it. But it will be costly.

All people are waiting for the bus to come and see what the quality is inside and how much more popular it can be in the coming days are famous.

It just looks like the technology isn't there. If it's so heavy and it isn't convenient, then I don't think it's worth the price range. I guess it is just hype at this point.
