Sunsets Around the World - Hawkins Point Magnetic Island 🇦🇺
Hawkins point is the perfect spot to watch the sunset on Magnetic Island.
The hike to the top of Hawkins point is a 1.2km return takes about an hour.
This winding trail will take you to the top of a large boulder with breath taking views.
As you make your way up the granite cliff, the trail is a gradual climb with stairs carved out of the rocks.
White cockatoo in the trees watching you and squawking as you past, and osprey and Kites sore in the sky looking for prey.
There is a couple of view points on your way up.
Then once you reach the top you will find a large bolder with a safety fence around it, with an amazing view towards Townsville and back over the island to Nelly and Geoffrey bays.
This makes for an amazing birds eye view of the island.
And the perfect spot to watch the sun set over Townsville.
If you ever visit magnetic Island make sure you hike to the top of Hawkins point and watch the sunset it is stunning!
Don't forget that the journey is all there is.

I remember when I was about 17 calling mum in Bega at about midnight and drunkenly saying hey mum guess what! I'm overseas! And she was yelling going where where where and I'm like, I'm on Heron Island! Shit I put her through so much! Drunkenly calling her from the Tathra pub at 3am when I was 15 (school the next day..), hey mum can you come and pick me up please...🤣 Oh poor woman! When I think what I put her through...
I was a bit older when I went to Maggie though...and unfortunately can't even remember when, though I do remember with who...I think maybe pre-xmas 99..
Anyway, yes love to go back again one day! Back to all the islands and a belated staff reunion on Hammo Island too..
Haha yes I think we all put our mothers through hell when we were younger 😂

My mate worked on hammo. In the mid 2000s, it was always fun going there for a visit and staying in the staff rooms. Good times indeed😊
Haaaa yessss....hmmmmm what happens on Hammo stays on Hammo...Especially in the staff quarters...🤣 and especially in A block...🤡
