Steam boat on Wakatipu lake to a farm in new Zealand.
All aboard!!!
Well this isn't actually an ocean ship but more of a lady of the lake . Lake Wakatipu on the south island in Queenstown, New Zealand to be precise.

Lake Wakatipu might aswell be a small ocean as this lake is 291 square klms!
Now my 4 year old son is obsessed with the Titanic so this was a ship we had to see with our own eyes when we were in Queenstown

And as a suprise we even went on a journey on the old girl down the lake to a farm for the day.

This ship is none other than the TSS Earnslaw. Built in 1912 same year as the Titanic was built . So this was the closest ship to the Titanic my son would ever see.
And he loved it!!

The Earnslaw is the only remaining commercial passenger carrying steamship in the southern hemisphere. So we had to go for a ride !!

We waited in line then it was time to board the ship.

You couldn't wipe the smile off my sons face as he found out that we were actually going to go on the boat for the day!
We found a seat inside the boat to set our bags down.

And as we embarked on our journey it was time to explore the boat.

They had a miniature steam motor to check out

Then we went to see the real thing.

This is a coal fired steam ship and you can watch the stokers top up the coal in the boiler room.

It was so interesting to watch. And extremely warm. There is two coal powered steam engines which produces around 500 horse power each.

We walked all around the boat and up a level to the top deck.

Watching the mountains just pass by as the steamboat cruised down the lake was awesome!

I have never been on a large lake in a boat before and I was surprised at how smooth it is compared to being on a boat or ship at sea.

Before we knew it we made it to our destination

Walter Peak Farm!

After a quick bite to eat we were off to check out what a New Zealand farm has to offer.
First off we met some calf's then a Highland cow wanted a feed

Met some alpacas

And what's a trip to New Zealand with out feeding some sheep.

Then it was time to explore the gardens

And a quick play on the lakes shore.

Then back onto the Earnslaw to head back to town.

When ever you visit Queenstown it is hard to miss the mighty Earnslaw in the lake.
And I definitely recommend going for a cruise on the Earnslaw. It's definitely the best way to explore the lake!
Stay tuned for some more New Zealand adventures.
Happy travels!
