Pale-headed Rosella

While I was working in my shed I could hear a bird singing outside. We have a lot of different birds come and visit my backyard but this sound was one I had never heard before.

When I stopped work for a lunch break I could see a colourful bird sitting in the tree.

I got my phone out so I could zoom in to see what it was, and to my surprise it was a Pale-headed Rosella.

I had not seen one of these in the wild before so this was a special treat!

He was happily singing in the tree eating some leaves when a noisy minor bird swooped in and started harrassing the rosella.

Man the noise minors are very territorial. But the rosella didn't seem to care, he flew down and landed on the shed roof and continued to peck away at branches for food.

These birds have some beautiful colours in them .

The yellow on their back with black dots looks kind of like a leapord print.

The different shades of blue underbody make for a very unique colour pattern.

It was such a treat to see this guy in the backyard! I hope he sticks around and tells his mates to come and hang out. Or maybe the noisy minors will move him on.
