The Iran War / Euopeean and global Impact - some thoughts
The geopolitical situation around Iran is escalating again or even reaches new highs. Most headlines focus on the obvious risks:
- military escalation
- oil supply disruption
- rising energy prices
All of that matters. But the consequences go far beyond oil markets.
Energy Pressure on Europe
Europe is already dealing with a fragile energy balance. The war in Ukraine already reshaped energy supply chains. European Union as such is not relly a union or community, too many different national interests - weak political leaders across the contintent brownnosing other leaders whyever.
If tensions around Iran escalate further, we could see:
- additional pressure on oil/gas prices
- instability in shipping routes
- increased volatility in global energy markets
For Europe this means another layer of economic pressure. And energy costs still influence everything from manufacturing to digital infrastructure.
What This Means for Tech
People often assume tech companies are somewhat insulated from geopolitical shocks.
That’s not really true.
Higher energy costs affect:
- data centers
- cloud infrastructure
- semiconductor production
- logistics and hardware supply chains
Even SaaS companies feel the ripple effects indirectly. I knoiw what i am talking about here.
SaaS and Enterprise Tech
For SaaS and enterprise technology companies the consequences usually show up in different ways:
- slower enterprise spending
- delayed digital transformation projects
- tighter budgets in large organizations
When geopolitical uncertainty rises, companies tend to freeze or delay major investments.
That includes software.
The Hidden Impact
Conflicts like this rarely hit the tech sector directly.
Instead they create uncertainty.
And uncertainty is one of the biggest enemies of innovation investment.
Companies become cautious.
Governments shift priorities.
Capital moves into safer assets.
It’s easy to think of wars purely in military terms. But modern conflicts ripple through:
- energy markets
- technology investments
- financial systems
- global supply chains
And in a connected world those effects spread fast.
For Europe especially the next months could become economically and politically complicated. I am personally a bit afraid of the future given we see no actors with balls across the continent.
Curious how others see this situation evolving.
Energy is the obvious story.
But the second-order effects on technology, SaaS and digital infrastructure might be just as important.

You don't see so much about the massive cost of rebuilding after a conflict. Obviously that has opportunities for some companies, but the economies of these countries could suffer for decades. That's on top of the obvious human suffering that is bad enough. As someone else mentioned things don't seem to have changed that much since the Vietnam war that a certain someone managed to dodge. I think conflicts tend to be worse when religion is involved and that includes Christian cults.
