TIL The Biggest Recorded Gallstone Was 6 + kg

It's been a decade or something since the first (and last) time I experienced the pain of a passing gallstone.

Nothing major, it was probably super tiny. Now the pain wasn't that bad, I'd probably give it a 6 out of 10. I guess the bigger the stone the more insufferable it is.

After doing a quick Google search, it seems like the average gallstone is just 5 to 10mm in diameter and 5 to 10 grams in weight. Yeah, small.

With that in mind, here's the fun trivia I learnt today.

The record for biggest gallstone ever reported in medical literature belongs to a gallstone that was 6.29 kg or 13 lb 14 oz. That's way bigger than an average baby, lol!

It was removed from an 80-year-old woman by Dr Humphrey Arthure (UK) at Charing Cross Hospital, London on 29 December 1952.

Unfortunately I couldn't find a photo of it so here's the next best thing, a huge gallstone of only...278 g

I can only imagine how big a 6+ kg gallstone could be... That's like 24 times bigger then the stone depicted above!

Gallstone? More like gallboulder 😂😂😂

Ouch!

You were so young to have a gallstone. According to Cleveland clinic, men over 60 are most likely to have gallstones, women between 20 and 60. You were just unlucky!

I was trying a restrictive keto diet back then, I think it was because of that! Never had any problems since

I wonder just how much it hurt for that person. Having a gallstone that large sounds like a horrible experience.

It's hard to believe that something like that could be inside a person, man. It's beyond gigantic! I did a little research and found out it's caused by high cholesterol. I'd better watch out for that.
