This is big!

Well, while serial gamblers like us degen from one ponzi to the other in the hopes of making it big, there are actually some good people trying to make the world a better place :) 😂

What I am talking about is a new paper that was published today in Nature, where scientists seem to have solved, or at least put a huge stepping stone, in treating spinal cord paralysis! They prettu much did what was only a dream for decades and decades. They devised a protocol that helped paralyzed people walk once again!

Here are some titbits from the paper, I will leave a link down below if you want to give it a read!

Here we show that spatiotemporal epidural electrical stimulation (EES) of the lumbar spinal cord 1,2,3 applied during neurorehabilitation4,5 (EESREHAB) restored walking in nine individuals with chronic spinal cord injury

This recovery demonstrates the therapeutic efficacy of EESREHAB in a large number of people who exhibited neurological deficits spanning the entire range of severities after SCI, thus opening a path for the clinical deployment of this therapy.

We thus identified a recovery-organizing neuronal subpopulation that is necessary and sufficient to regain walking after paralysis.

Amazing shit!

I guess if the world survives and doesn't burn in a nuclear Armageddon or something we will see amazing stuff in the next decade. Who knows, maybe we will be even able to regenerate lost limbs!

My bet is on nuclear holocaust of course, but hey...you never know 🤪😂

That is pretty huge leap. It would be life changing for a lot of people.

We already have the technology to grow limbs and organs, but the research is crippled by opinions and laws saying it's immoral.

I doubt we do

We definitely do. We've been able to grow ears and fingers on rats for at least a decade, and we've been able to grow human organs in pigs for even longer. The problem has been that much of that science uses stem cells (or did back then, I haven't looked into it lately) which are more than a little controversial. Using animals to grow human parts is ALSO controversial, and using pigs brings up some religious issues.

Of course, ears and fingers aren't whole limbs, and when I say we can grow limbs, I don't know for sure, but it doesn't really seem like a stretch to think the science has come that far in 10 years.

Well I'd guess growing an ear on the lab is a lot simpler then growing a functional limb with all the tissues like cartilage, neurons, skin, blah blah. Maybe in a decade or so ^_^

That's great news! Science is really making some great advances. We get so distracted by all the bad stuff that's happening in the world that we often fail to notice, so it's nice to pay attention sometimes.

This indeed is a great leap man.
Soldiers in wars can now fight with reckless abandon 😂😂.
If limbs can be regrown, then I'm like wow 😲......

That's how technology should be utilized more often

There is a trimming technology that can grow limbs and other body parts, but I don't think it has been accepted by society yet. Technology is advancing every day.

We shouldn't be shocked if we meet aliens on earth because there will be more incredible technological advances in the years to come.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom, you are amazing

It's just an acronym, not that trimming you are thinking about

Same here.

With the rate at which medicine is advancing, it is only a matter of time before it finds cures for diseases as lethal as cancer and others.

we definitely need to avoid nuclear war in order to continue developing.
