Unless you are already familiar with it, chances are you would think the image above is some silly ai generation.

Turns out, as I found out today, that dogs isn't the only animal where humans have created all kinds of dumb looking breeds. The same is true for goldfish πŸ˜‚

What you see above is a breed of goldfish known as...the Bubble Eye goldfish.

The Bubble Eye is a small variety of fancy goldfish with upward-pointing eyes that are accompanied by two large fluid-filled sacs. It is a dorsal-less fish – good specimens will have a clean back and eye bubbles that match in color and size. The bubble eye goldfish lacks a dorsal fin and has a double tail. They normally grow up to 3 to 4 inches in length. source

These bubbles are quite easy to puncture so care must be taken if owners want their fishy to stay safe. So sharp objects or other aggressive species are a big no no.

Still, even if they pop the bubbles can regenerate although that increases the risk for infection.

And in case you wonder, no the bubbles have no useful role for the fish. They only make it harder to swim, eat, see and do all the other stuff gold fish usually do.

Tldr, just another dumb thing humans have created to satisfy their vanity πŸ˜‚

Here's a video showing these weird ball sacks in action. They sure look annoying as fuck

Ok, that's it for today's weirdness. Feel free to visit wikipedia if you want to learn more about these silly looking creatures πŸ˜‚

..
...
....
.....

Now I can't stop wondering how many people have actually bought one just to pop its bubbles πŸ˜‚

I see two other kinds of people buying it besides actual sadists: dumbish who like funny looking stuff and the absolutely clueless who enjoy cute stuff that no one else would consider cute.

A mutation that they should have just let die out rather than breeding for it...

I used to keep a few nice Fan Tail gold fish, nice looking, shimmery, hardy but man do these fantails eat a lot.

I have one of them given to me by a co worker though they don't really llok the same. As much as possible, i never wanted one but i had to adopt it or he will just throw it or give to someone who doesn't know how to take care of it.

Imagine the hassle the goldfiah had to endure its entire life. Have you ahd a swollen eye before? How dumb are thise who created it

Poor fish! It gets in their way, and causes easy injury? Not really a trait worth breeding for...

I genuinely sympathize with the fragility of those balls. Hopefully I don't sympathize with the size of the fish...
