Meta Takes Another Swing At AI Powered Charms

Meta have recently announced another AI powered charm, this time much more tomagotchi in style than their previous attempt. I am not sure what anyone would use this for but it is coming in December 2026 and apparently can be customized as well as do basic tasks for you (that your phone can already do).

I think an AI small device is only good if it's uses a built-in (local) model... Having an AI pin that always hears you, and is always connected to the internet sounds like a nightmare privacy risk to me.

Exactly. That is what this is going to be considering it is connecting to, or accessing, Meta's AI assistant - I don't see them allowing users to run a local version that Meta cannot access statistics in real time for advertising and other "necessities" they deem required.
I think one capable of running local AI models would be pretty expensive.~
I agree, 100%. Local is quite expensive.
