Let's taste the real world, but without the mobile phone - WEEK 183
Let's taste the real world, but without the mobile phone
Write to be understood, speak to be heard, read to grow- Lawrence Clark Powel
Hello everyone
Look, we're almost at the end of the week and we're already thinking about what we're going to do these days, in fact, I think many of us have already made our plans.
Going through all three of this weekend's writing prompts, one of them managed to stir up precious memories for me, so I didn't dwell too long and chose to elaborate a bit on the situation of spending a weekend without a mobile phone.
Considering that we live in the digital age it is clear and simple that going without a mobile phone would probably be a disaster for me (at least during the week).
Indeed experimenting a few days without a mobile phone could be an experiment from which we can really learn a lot.
But before we move on I want to tell you a story.
Thinking about the above brought back memories of my childhood, yes, I go back more than 25-26 years ago when I was in early high school, gosh what a time.
I also remember very well the first days of school when some of my classmates came to school with mobile phones and I looked like a wonder (my classmates' parents were very rich, out of 27 children in the class there were 3 classmates who had mobile phones), you can imagine that at that time we didn't have access to information and the phones were not very powerful at all.
As far as I remember, my first mobile phone was given to me as a gift by my parents in my last year of high school (the main condition that my parents put for me to receive this mobile phone was to have good results in my studies), at that time I really needed it to communicate with other colleagues about the exams we were going to have at the end of high school, I know that here, in Romania, the education system is a bit strange compared to other education systems in other parts of the world.
Look in those days I managed to go without a mobile phone for years, in fact I almost didn't know what a mobile phone looked like, without complaining that I didn't have internet or that some social media program didn't work.
I will attach to this post pictures of the second mobile phone I had, it is very old it has buttons even an external antenna, I am curious if there are among you people who had such a phone model.
Even if I had this model of phone I didn't spend a lot of time talking on it, I used it only when I strictly needed it otherwise it was abandoned somewhere on a table.
But now let's go back to the present when we already have access to a lot of mobile phone models, technology has advanced so much that less and less mobile phones will also make food, now I'm joking a little.
For example, for me personally to be without access to my mobile phone would be a disaster, I am so attached to this mobile phone that my mornings start by looking at my wife and then I look at my mobile phone.
By the time I get to work I already write a few messages, make a few appointments, check my emails and even send a few plus it's much easier for me to talk on the phone than to write messages, especially since I drive to work and here in Romania it's forbidden to use the phone while driving (I've been stopped a few times by police officers because they caught me talking on the phone).
I have so much on my mind that the daily diary I have on my phone is almost full, plus I have notes in my diary for two weeks ahead.
I don't work weekends so not using my phone these days could be a test of my addiction to this device.
The answer is very simple even if they don't work weekends and can't abandon their phone in a drawer.
Why can't I do that?
First of all, I am part of the team of volunteers for emergency situations in my community, and when an unpleasant event occurs, I am the first person to be called in these cases, after which I give the alarm further to the volunteers for emergency situations, after which in the shortest possible time we have to intervene in any situation.
That's why I can't give up my mobile phone when I'm on holiday or when I'm in the bathroom, at all times I have to be on the other end of the line, some people's lives may depend on me.
Dear visitors, that's about all I had to say about this weekend's writing.
If you liked what you saw and read here please don't forget to give a LiKe, Follow, reBlog or a Comment, for all this I thank you, and until the next post I say goodbye.
P.S. The attached pictures you have just seen are taken by me with my mobile phone, and the text is also designed by me.
Yours @triplug😉
In those days of youth and when cell phones had new features on a daily basis, it was fun to have a phone with the latest technology. It was very pleasant for me to call or pass messages between high school classmates, but those days are long gone for me hahahaha. Now I want to get as far away from cell phones as possible. I have done this disconnecting thing, in fact I did it for two months, although in my defense, it was also the holiday season at my job hehe, but it is still something I recommend, you can start with a weekend first and you will discover that it is very pleasant 😉
Indeed, giving up the phone for a weekend would be a challenge for me, but unfortunately I can't do it because of my job.
Being part of the team of volunteers in emergency situations I have the obligation to have the phone on 24/7.
If I go on holiday or for other reasons I cannot be present in the commune, I have to announce so that the bosses can appoint another person temporarily in my place, but everything is very strict.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Awee. Wasnt able to use this kinds of phone but my mom kept hers in the cabinet so i got a chance to see it. Man, this phone is quite heavy😅
I admit it's a pretty heavy phone, but having used it 20 years ago, technology has advanced so much that we can barely keep up.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Omg, I had this kind of mobile phone before. I was 7 ot 8 that time I think. It's really not mine actually but I often hold it and Mon was just letting me. I also remember using it just texting some random numbers hahahaha, this take me to the past omg! Lol.
It's hard not to hold your phone especially if it has a big role in your work. IT should be attached to you like all day. And even weekend is not an exception coz no matter what, ee still need to hold it for business purposes to some. As for me, I can't really function well without m6 phone now. If it's before, I can do that, but not now (≧▽≦)
Living in the century of speed, at least for me, it's very hard not to have access to a phone, as I wrote in the post, I'm part of the volunteer emergency response team in the community where I live.
Thank you so much for your nice comment and have a wonderful weekend.
Last year we visited a hilly area but unfortunately there was no mobile network so the mobiles were like toys. To be honest, it was a little rough at first but by the end when we were all hanging out and enjoying each other, we all realized how close we all have become due to not having a mobile phone network. Everyone enjoyed this moment.
I'm convinced that going a day or two without a mobile phone won't be a tragedy, perhaps this will bring us closer to each other.
Lately, I've noticed a real misuse of phones among people, which is not a good thing.
We have become slaves of the mobile phone, frankly I have seen some phases that could have ended tragically, young people crossing the street but with their eyes in the phone, those young people almost got hit by a car.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Great post!
My first phone was in a bag. I kid you not. A purse like bag with a big battery phone device the handset even had the coiles cord connecting it to the device.
I thought I was Crocket from Miami Vice truckin' on down the road yappin' on it. Lmao
Until I got the first months costs billing of $1100 usd.!!
I have a photo of it somewhere, but can not find it now.
I had one like the one you write about. I accidentally ran over it with the lawnmower. Lmao
I'm so glad you liked the post, in addition to this phone I have a few others that I even thought of doing a post on their progress.
Have a wonderful Sunday.
One of my all time faves was the Boulder push to talk walkie talkie flip phones. I had this exact phone for a few years. Could not find a photo of mine so pulled one of the web.
As far as I can see, this phone is part of a durable and efficient system.
Even so, these mobile phones have lost the battle to new mobile phone technology.
In the time you write about, 25 years ago, when the Nokia 5110 was current, it was prestigious to have a mobile phone and only those who needed it for work or those whose parents could afford $1000 or more had it.
The first Nokia that I held in my hands and spoke from it (take a look at my post, there is a picture), it cost with a SIM card about 10000DM (German mark, later replaced with 1/2 Euro), which means about $5000. That phone was owned by my friend's father, the owner of a private company... At that time children aged 5-15 certainly could not have this gadget.
And they didn't even need it, who would they call with it when it wasn't in mass use. And there were no other games on it besides "Snakes"🙂
The phone pictured was the second phone I had when I was in high school and, yes, I remember if you wanted to talk on it, it cost a fortune.
So off topic, the mobile phone subscription I have now I signed up for in 2015 as of this year I have the same phone number only the benefits of the subscriptions have changed tremendously.
I don't remember how much my parents paid for this phone, but I don't think it cost that much, during the communist period here in Romania you couldn't really get that much money.
And yes, there wasn't much to talk to, phones were pretty scarce.
Have a wonderful Sunday.
My parents never bought me a mobile phone. All the mobile phones I had, I bought myself, some used and remanufactured, some new, as I could...
Even I always bought phones for my parents 😀
For my number, which I have had since 2001, the package is increased with each contract, and I am also looking for increased internet packages...
Neighbor from Romania, we look across the Danube 👋
Didn't communism "go away" with the hanging of Causesku? In our country it fell apart with the collapse of YU in 1991...
I was too young to buy a cell phone myself, I mean I wasn't working because I was in high school.
I am glad to see that we are neighbours as countries.
Yes here in Romania with the fall of Ceausescu and communism disappeared but since then the new world started which in my opinion is a total failure, I mean I don't like the direction Romania has taken.
The whole world is going in some strange direction, so is your country and mine... But mine especially, led by corrupt and politicians with bad foreign policy...
Romania has no shortage of corrupt politicians either and there is no point in going into details, in conclusion I do not see a good direction.
I live in hope that maybe someday we will get back to normal.
Have a wonderful week ahead.
