[ESP/ENG] La temporada ciclónica en Cuba

Del 1ro de junio al 30 de noviembre se desarrolla la temporada ciclónica en Cuba y, como parte de la preparación que debemos tener para asumir una etapa tan peligrosa como esta buscamos alternativas para estar de la manera más informada posible y dominar los elementos esenciales de cada uno de los fenómenos meteorológicos que nos pueden afectar.

Como parte de esa preparación solicitamos los servicios de un especialista del Centro de Pronóstico del Instituto de Meteorología, para que nos impartiera una conferencia y nos abordara los elementos esenciales que caracterizarán esta época del año.

En la presentación compartiré algunos elementos de interés abordados por el especialista y otros que, en nuestra labor como profesor de Geografía, hemos tenido que desempeñar, para explicar muchos de los procesos que se generan en la temporada ciclónica en Cuba.

La Temporada Ciclónica en Cuba

El primer elemento que captó mi atención fue ver la juventud del especialista del centro de pronósticos. Sin embargo, cuando el Licenciado Ariel Maturel Salinas comenzó a dar los primeros compases de su conferencia, me di cuenta de que estaba en presencia de un especialista muy bien preparado.

En el recorrido por su conferencia hizo referencia a los principales fenómenos hidrometeorológicos que afectan a Cuba, los modelos de tormentas, las temporadas ciclónicas más intensas que hemos tenido en nuestra área geográfica, los meses en los que se producen la mayor cantidad de estos eventos meteorológicos y otros elementos que debemos tener en cuenta, para saber cómo actuar y preservar la vida de los seres humanos y los principales recursos económicos y materiales.

Ante una pregunta de uno de los participantes en la conferencia sobre qué era peor: las lluvias o el viento, el especialista explicó que todos los elementos son peligrosos y al explicar por qué quedamos convencidos de la peligrosidad de cada uno de los elementos que afectan durante esta temporada.

Mientras más avanzaba, la conferencia más interesante se ponía y el profesor nos seguía ilustrando con aspectos importantes como:

Clasificaciones de los huracanes, los principales elementos que se conjugan para que se formen los huracanes, la escala en la que se ubican estos fenómenos meteorológicos, según la fuerza de sus vientos y otros elementos de interés que hicieron de esta una actividad inolvidable.

2024: La temporada más activa de la historia

Según el licenciado Ariel Maturel Salina, se prevé que esta sea la temporada ciclónica más activa en la historia y, como cada año, la Organización Meteorológica Mundial (OMI) ya dio los nombres que tendrán los huracanes.

Según el listado dado por la OMI, ahora mismo, ya vamos por el segundo nombre de esa lista y, apenas, estamos comenzando el segundo mes de la temporada, lo que demuestra la aseveración hecha por el especialista.

En una de sus diapositivas nos mostró la posible formación de estos ciclones y la zona geográfica en la que se desarrollarán lo que hace que la actual temporada sea de mucho peligro para nuestro país que por demás ha estado sufriendo de lluvias considerables y esto se torna peligroso ante un ciclón porque se producen inundaciones, crecidas de ríos, con los consiguientes daños, para la población, las viviendas y la agricultura.

Como elemento conclusivo hablamos de los esfuerzos compartidos que se realizan en el país, para evitar la mayor cantidad de daños posibles y estar siempre preparados y alertas.

From June 1st to November 30th, the cyclonic season in Cuba will take place and, as part of the preparation we must have to assume such a dangerous stage as this one, we are looking for alternatives to be as informed as possible and to master the essential elements of each of the meteorological phenomena that may affect us.

As part of this preparation, we requested the services of a specialist from the Meteorological Institute's Forecast Center to give us a lecture on the essential elements that will characterize this time of the year.

In the presentation I will share some elements of interest addressed by the specialist and others that, in our work as a professor of Geography, we have had to perform, to explain many of the processes that are generated in the cyclonic season in Cuba.

The Cyclonic Season in Cuba

The first element that caught my attention was to see the youth of the specialist of the forecast center. However, when Mr. Ariel Maturel Salinas began to give the first bars of his lecture, I realized that I was in the presence of a very well prepared specialist.

In the course of his lecture he made reference to the main hydrometeorological phenomena that affect Cuba, the storm models, the most intense cyclonic seasons we have had in our geographical area, the months in which the greatest number of these meteorological events occur and other elements that we must take into account, in order to know how to act and preserve the life of human beings and the main economic and material resources.

In response to a question from one of the conference participants as to which was worse: the rains or the wind, the specialist explained that all elements are dangerous and explained why we are convinced of the danger of each of the elements that affect us during this season.

The more the lecture progressed, the more interesting it became and the professor continued to illustrate important aspects such as:

Classifications of hurricanes, the main elements that combine to form hurricanes, the scale in which these meteorological phenomena are located, according to the strength of their winds and other elements of interest that made this an unforgettable activity.

2024: The most active season in history

According to Ariel Maturel Salina, this is expected to be the most active hurricane season in history and, as every year, the World Meteorological Organization (IMO) has already given the names of the hurricanes.

According to the list given by the IMO, right now, we are already on the second name of that list and we are just beginning the second month of the season, which proves the assertion made by the specialist.

In one of his slides he showed us the possible formation of these cyclones and the geographical area in which they will develop, which makes the current season very dangerous for our country, which has been suffering from considerable rainfall and this becomes dangerous in the face of a cyclone because it produces floods, flooding of rivers, with the consequent damage to the population, housing and agriculture.

As a conclusive element we talk about the shared efforts that are made in the country, to avoid as much damage as possible and to be always prepared and alert.
