As Director of Knowledge Management of the Institute of Geology and Paleontology of the Republic of Cuba, I have a lot of work, but at the same time I receive many benefits. Among these is the organization of scientific events and workshops held by our center and setting up the stand where our researchers present and disseminate the main scientific results achieved.

Every year I participate in several national and international events in which I have the possibility and the privilege of exchanging with scientists and researchers of the Earth Sciences to learn about their research and, at the same time, to let them know about ours.

One of those events was the Tenth Convention of Earth Sciences held at the Palace of Conventions in Havana, Cuba, where our center was widely represented and I was able to participate in front of our stand and as part of the Cuban delegation to this important scientific conclave.

Preparing the Institute of Geology and Paleontology Stand

One of the most important elements of any scientific event is the Exhibition Fair of the institutions and this is done with the help of all the participants when they manage to set up a pavilion in which they exhibit the main results of the institution. In our case, the exhibited elements were related to rocks, minerals, scientific articles, books and audiovisuals, in which our institutional work was disclosed.

Our management was in charge of setting up the stand and it was the first activity we carried out prior to the opening of the congress.

Main activities carried out at the Stand of the Institute of Geology and Paleontology

This pavilion is open to the public during the entire event and different activities are carried out there. Among the activities we carried out were:

• Book presentations,
• Recognition of outstanding researchers,
• Signing of work agreements with universities,
• Exchange of experiences with other scientific centers,
• Books and scientific articles of great utility for geological research were presented,
• Exhibition of the books published by the publishing house of our institute and that on this occasion we show it in hard and digital formats,
• Visit of several personalities of the Geosciences. Among others: President of the International Geological Union, President of the Geological Union of the United States, President of the Cuban Society of Geology, Rector of the University Antonio Núñez Jiménez of Moa, Cuba, Postgraduate Director of the Ministry of Higher Education of Cuba, Director of Geology of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Director of Mining of the Ministry of Energy and Mines both of the Republic of Cuba.

A final comment

The X Earth Sciences Convention has been a space for creation and collective learning. The topics dealt with were varied and, in our case, the most outstanding ones were Environmental Geology, Paleontology, Mineral Deposits, Geological Cartography, Regional Geology, Geological Heritage, Geodiversity, Geoprocessing and Geological Knowledge Management.

Una introducción necesaria

Como director de Gestión del Conocimiento del Instituto de Geología y Paleontología de la República de Cuba tengo mucho trabajo, pero, a la vez recibo muchos beneficios. Dentro de estos está el organizar los eventos y talleres científicos que realiza nuestro centro y confeccionar el stand en el que nuestros investigadores presentan y difunden los principales resultados científicos alcanzados.

Cada año participo en varios eventos nacionales e internacionales en el que tengo la posibilidad y el privilegio de intercambiar con científicos e investigadores de las Ciencias de la Tierra para conocer sobre sus investigaciones y, a la vez, que conozcan de las nuestras.

Uno de esos eventos fue la Décima Convención de Ciencias de la Tierra realizado en el Palacio de las Convenciones, de la Habana, Cuba, en la que nuestro centro estuvo representado ampliamente y yo pude participar al frente de nuestro stand y como parte de la delegación de Cuba a este importante cónclave científico.

Preparando el Stand del Instituto de Geología y Paleontología

Uno de los elementos más importantes de todo evento científico es la Feria Expositivas de las instituciones y, esta se hace con el concurso de todos los participantes cuando estos logran montar un pabellón en el exponen los principales resultados de la institución. En nuestro caso los elementos expuestos estuvieron relacionados con rocas, minerales, artículos científicos, libros y audiovisuales, en el que se divulgaron nuestro quehacer institucional.

A nuestra dirección le corresponde el montaje del stand y fue la primera actividad que realizamos previo a la inauguración del congreso.

Principales actividades realizadas en el Stand del Instituto de Geología y Paleontología

Este pabellón está abierto al público durante todo el evento y en él se realizan diferentes actividades. Dentro de las actividades que realizamos estuvieron:

•Presentaciones de libros,
•Reconocimientos a investigadores destacados,
•Firma de convenios de trabajos con universidades,
•Intercambio de experiencias con otros centros científicos,
•Se obsequiaron libros y artículos científicos de gran utilidad para la investigación geológica,
•Exposición de los libros que ha publicado la editorial de nuestro instituto y que en esta ocasión lo mostramos en formatos duro y digital,
•Visita de varias personalidades de las Geociencias. Entre otras: Presidente la Unión Geológica Internacional, Presidente de la Unión Geológica de los Estados Unidos, Presidenta de la Sociedad Cubana de Geología, Rector de la Universidad Antonio Núñez Jiménez de Moa, Cuba, Director de Postgrado del Ministerio de Educación Superior de Cuba, Director de Geología del Ministerio de Energía y Minas, Director de Minería del Ministerio de Energía y Minas ambos de la República de Cuba.

Un comentario final

La X Convención de Ciencias de la Tierra ha sido un espacio de creación y aprendizajes colectivos. Variados fueron las temáticas tratadas y, en nuestro caso los más destacables fueron los Geología Ambiental, Paleontología, Yacimientos Minerales, Cartografía Geológica, Geología Regional, Geoprocesamiento, Patrimonio Geológico, Geodiversidad y Gestión del Conocimiento Geológico.
