A coffee, a scientific event and some friends /Week 174

First of all, greetings to all the members of the community and the wish that in these final moments of the year your life projects for this year that is ending have been fulfilled or are in the process of being fulfilled.

Coffee is part of my customs and my culture, I know about it from the way it is planted, cultivated, and harvested. Likewise the whole process of pulping, drying and industrial production. This comes to me from the part of the country where I lived and which has among its main economic sectors the production of coffee.

But, my taste for coffee comes from my maternal grandmother and after I reached the age of majority I have tasted it over and over again until this age that I am now. He has been in several important moments of my life and has been and is an accomplice of my main actions and habits. Having said that, let's take a look at what happened last weekend, exactly on Saturday.

The pretext

I am the director of Knowledge Management of the Institute of Geology and Paleontology of Cuba and, within the functions of my direction is to manage the scientific journal of the institution. We are determined to certify it before the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of the country, but we are missing some details and we decided to hold a scientific event called "Keys to certify the Geoinformative journal".

The participants

The event was attended by 18 people, many of whom are colleagues and friends of the work we had, in something that we like and unites work, the perfect pretext to spend a different Saturday because we were working and at the same time we enjoyed several proposals.

The place of the scientific event

Once we decided the topics to be discussed at the event and the participants we had to decide the place and we decided that it would be the Hotel Comodoro because it is a comfortable place where we have held other scientific and festive activities. Besides, in the place there is one of our Havana cafeteria called "The Cuban".

We arrived early in the morning to be in the whole process of preparation of the Welcome Coffee, the snack that would be given during the break and everything related to the place of the scientific event and to verify if anything of the logistics was missing. As each of the participants arrived, they took their places in the cafeteria and began to drink their coffee with a sweet roll while they were fraternizing and talking about the different problems of life.

In my case, I enjoyed my coffee with a beer. It's something I can't avoid, but the mixture of beer and coffee has always attracted me. In fact, every time we have a family party at home and I have a beer, I also have a cup of coffee.

The event

We developed the scientific workshop and just as the year has gone by, so did the time. We discussed and proposed the aspects that we considered essential to be able to accredit our scientific journal. In the same way, we will meet for the month of November or December when we have made the proposal to the ministry in charge of reviewing our application for accreditation and celebrate in this coffee shop.

About coffee and my habits

In one part of this publication I said that coffee has been present in several important aspects of my life. Here are three of them:

  • On August 28, 1998 I met my current wife and the cup of coffee she gave me was the perfect pretext to begin to make her fall in love with me and you can imagine the rest.
  • My wife is retired so when I leave for work she still sleeps, but every afternoon we have a cup of coffee. It is true that in England 5pm is tea time. We don't have an exact time, we just have that need as a special moment in our lives, in which we have forged several of our life projects.
  • Every day I prepare coffee for the workers at my address. I have been criticized because they say that the boss should not do that. For me it is a pleasure and has allowed me in that cup of coffee that we drink before starting work a moment of joy and happiness.

A final comment

Last October 1st International Coffee Day was celebrated and in many places around the world activities were carried out to celebrate it. In my case I also did it, although as I told my wife every day that life gives me I celebrate it when in the morning my first food is a cup of coffee.
