Let's talk music and play ( day 4 Contest )
The Minnesota singer-songwriter won the Nobel Prize in 2016 for the lyrics to "Storm." This famous song tells the story of the boxer, whose unjust imprisonment prompted Bob Dylan to write the song. Paterson, New Jersey, 1966. Rubin "The Hurricane" Carter was a rising star in light heavyweight boxing and was considered a top contender for the world title.
In 1974, Boxer published his prison autobiography, The Sixteenth Round, which attracted the attention of celebrities such as singers Bob Dylan and Muhammad Ali.
Dylan met Carter in prison and, when it became clear that the former boxer was innocent, he organized several benefit concerts to promote and empathize with his cause. In 1975 he recorded the song "The Storm", which immediately became one of the biggest hits of its time.
After a second trial in 1976, Carter and Artis were again convicted. Although the prosecution's star witness was a known criminal who changed his story twice.
But in 1979, a black teenager living in Canada convinced a group of Canadians, including lawyers Leon Friedman and Myron Beldock, to launch a campaign to save him.
His efforts paid off. In 1985, a federal judge ruled that prosecutors acted with malice in two previous trials. After being released from prison, Carter moved to Toronto and lived with the Canadian community that freed him. In 1999, Canadian director Norman Jewison produced a feature film called The Tempest, starring Denzel Washington. The former boxer later became an activist working to free prisoners convicted of crimes they did not commit.
