Let's talk music and play ( day 16 Contest )
By 1978, Bob Marley had become a household name in Jamaica. It's not just his music. He shook hands with two of his political rivals, Prime Minister Michael Manley and opposition leader Edward Seaga, at a well-attended event in June of that year, at which he received the Peace Medal of the UN.
But it wasn't easy. His fight for peace on the island later ended in political violence, but he was attacked in 1976. So, fearing for his life, he decided to move permanently to England, where he had acquired some fame after years of hardships
The London musician released the albums Exodus (1977) and Kaya (1978), in which he combined reggae sounds with songs like "Is It Love?", "Jammin'" and "Waiting In Vain." It is no coincidence that white bands like The Clash worked on songs with Caribbean rhythms like "(White Man) In Hammersmith Palais" or "The Guns of Brixton."
On the other hand, according to Vivian Goldman of The Guardian, Marley loved the punk bands of Joe Strummer and Mick Jones. That's why he composed the song "Punky Reggae Party" with Lee Perry in 1977. According to the founder of "Stand Up", the most they have in common are protests and criticism of the power of punk. Because it existed. Rastafarian culture recognized by Jamaicans. This song was not included on any album, but was included as the B-side of the single "Jammin".
In '79, Marley worked on Uraise, the last long player he released during his lifetime. His promotional single was "You Can Be Love". This track and the album as a whole contain references to religion. He was diagnosed with cancer two years ago and after 10 years his health began to deteriorate.
