Getting My FPV Racing Drone Ready To Be Launched!

Just look at that sexy beast will ya? My Awesome Chris Rosser signature racing drone has props ready to go and it is almost ready to be sent to the skies! The only thing missing to make this happen is the controller module. I need an ELRS module for this and I am currently running Team Black Sheep's Crossfire radio signal. I am trying to decide if I want to get a separate radio entirely to use with this drone and future tiny whoops, or to just get the ELRS module for my current radio and just switch them out when I use the different drones... I don't know yet, that decision is still in the air, get it, lol... FPV dad jokes all day, haha!

The wall is looking good these days, isn't it? I am happy to finally be in a good place, back making some good trading money, so I can get back to focusing on just having a good time making my own stuff with my 3D printers and ripping up the skies with some fun and fast drones! I am sick of not enjoying life and trying to turn all of my passions into some kind of income. Other than posting these kind of posts and my flight video content here on the blockchain, I am not looking to make my drone flying into a business in anyway. I want to keep this a pure hobbie, you know, something to go out and enjoy!

I spent the day tinkering around in the lab, getting stuff cleaned up, and getting these drones all finished up. I am going to fly with a buddy of mine tomorrow so I am getting batteries charged and props all ready to go. With the racing drone, I wanted to better secure the battery with some super grip stuff that will help grip the battery and not let it slide.

A week or so ago, I printed up this little battery landing pad in a blue TPU, but after putting the props on, it just didn't match the teal color. So I decided to load up the Bambu Lab A1 with some black TPU and printed a new one! See, racing drones have the battery on the bottom of the drone, so when you land, you are basically landing on the battery... This is really not a great design, so this protector is a great way to give it some padded 'landing gear'.

This is what it looks like without the landing pad on the battery. So you see my concern with this. Racing drones are known to have their lithium batteries explode... This is why.

The print took a bit over 3 hours to finish with tree supports. It only adds like 36 grams to the drone, so it's really not that big of a deal to give me the big stress relief of the added security. I mean, it's not like I am really racing with it. I just want to be able to train with it and learn to fly real fast, lol.

After it was finished, I pulled the tree supports off of the print and snipped off a couple of little pieces, and it is ready to go! I ended up cutting one of the little bubbles out in the middle to let the battery sit better, and when I did, it was perfect! Losing the blue color and going with black was a great choice if I don't say so myself.

So now, just waiting on Monday for my next pay day from the family trading fund and I will be getting my new controller or controller module and getting this guy up and going! I also ordered high performance SD cards for my 2 digital drones and my goggles, so now I will be capturing all the video!

How long does a full battery last?

Well... That all depends on the pilot, haha. On the 5 inch quads that run 6S batteries, I get 3-5 minutes max. The smaller guy is a 3 inch that runs 4S batteries, I can get about 8 minutes out of one if I am just cruising. 5-6 minutes if I am going hard.

My DJI FPV will do about 20 minutes in normal 'camera drone' mode, about 15 minutes in sport mode, and about 6-8 minutes max in manual mode going full speed.

Can you get bigger batteries for each model?

Nah, that's about it for those. If I went bigger, I would have to get different motors, and most likely a new flight controller module that can handle more power. Trust me, when you are flying as hard and me and my friends do, that time frame is enough, lol, you will want a break for a few minutes. We aren't doing any scenic, low and slow kind of flying, lol. And when you are doing it FPV style with goggles, it feels like you are in the cockpit of a jet doing moves a fighter pilot couldn't do, lol.

That looks like it will be lots of fun! Can't wait to see the videos and some of the stats on speed, battery life, etc.

Will be getting some SD cards in tomorrow from Amazon. Went and flew today and my buddy got some good footage usind and SD card in my goggles. I don't know how fast it is, but it will do at least 130mph from what I have been told. Battery life, I will be good to get 3-4 minutes going hard out of a 6s battery.
