Fixed My Broken Drone With Some 3D Printing Magic

Yep, I slammed the 'Little Dude' a little too hard in my last flight session. I broke the canopy that holds the camera and the video antenna in place. And when I say I broke it, I broke it in several pieces, lol.

Not only did I break the main canopy section that tied it down in the back and gave the camera it's angle, I also broke the front strut as well. This thing has taken a beating for sure, but I finally found some limits. Poor camera was kind of just hanging on for dear life, lol.

So after taking a look at the damage, I decided to look in the box and found a replacement canopy, but, it was the same kind of stiff plastic that the other one is, so I decided to go searching on Thingiverse and found the exact canopy I needed! I loaded up both designs to see which version I liked better and threw them over to the Bambu Lab A1 and printed them up with some TPU, which is more flexible and able to take a beating.

Once they finished printing, I picked off all the strings and clipped off any unnecessary plastic and got it put on the quad! It worked out great! One of the designs had a little tab that covered the antenna connection and helps keep it protected and in place. So that is the design I went with.

So now it's time to get this 'Little Dude' back in the air and see if my fix is going to be able to hold up to the abuse I am going to be putting it through, lol.

Until next time...

Be cool, be real, and always abide with the skies my dudes!

That's nice work! I've seen (online) some whoop flyers put a tiny piece, about 2mm across, of dense foam under the camera board so that it doesn't smack into the flight controller in a strong crash. I think that's how I killed my 533 race whoop.

Yeah, wasn't enough to protect the FC when I slammed it into a steel barrel, lol. It's dead now. I will post the video at some point this week.
