Cuban government applies limits on money transfers. Problem or solution?

Just a few days ago, the government of my country (Cuba) established limits on citizens' bank transfers, a decision that hinders the economic growth of both individuals and businesses within the island, as they can no longer operate with their money in a free and sovereign way. I believe that this is the first step towards the future use of a digital economy that will open the way to financial decentralization for all the inhabitants of the territory and today I'll tell you why.

Being able to withdraw up to 5000 CUP a day (equivalent to almost $23 dollars as of the day of writing this post) is not something Cubans are very happy with, since that amount of money doesn't really solve much nowadays in case you have an emergency, or want to buy something of great value, even so, it's the average of what a Cuban earns monthly working for a state entity. In addition, you cannot transfer more than 20,000 Cuban pesos a month, so if you own a business, you'll know that operating with CUP is no longer a profitable solution for your company.

The ATMs in the streets, of the few that are left, are crowded with people in all municipalities, with gigantic lines of at least two blocks, where people don't go to withdraw a million dollars, but because of the severe shortage of cash that exists in the country. The Cuban currency is worth less and less every day, there was a time when a single dollar was equivalent to 24 Cuban pesos, but today it's already 245. Where will all these imperfections of the Cuban banking system lead to in the future?

While if someone wanted to buy something, or say, visit a restaurant or coffee-shop, paying with cash would entail standing in a single queue of at least three hours beforehand at the ATM, or paying digitally with the fear of not exceeding 20K CUP (Cuban pesos) in a single transfer or being almost at the limit in the transfer amount by the end of the month. It's all madness!

"Money is only good as long as people have confidence in the government behind it."

Therefore, one of the many solutions to mitigate these inconveniences is the use of cryptocurrencies and digital assets, these will not make Cubans avoid going to ATMs in the first instance, but at least they will cope with the high inflation we have. Whether the use of Hive, Bitcoin, MATIC or any other digital currency of the blockchain can overcome all this.

On the one hand, it would be necessary to educate a whole people financially, but it would be worth it if all Cubans would use a currency that wouldn't prevent them from making large transfers, even if they were to use atomically better, so many of the things I mentioned above would be avoided by far.

Cryptocurrencies have no transfer, withdrawal or deposit limit, have a speed powered by blockchain technology, are scalable from anywhere in the world, bypass international sanctions proposed by states and are not controlled by any government. They are the current proof of supreme freedom, although many would agree that Hive and Bitcoin are among the few with this quality.

Maybe the day when Cubans will be able to go through their streets and acquire services and products with an ease of purchase without banknotes is closer than we think, maybe it's just around the corner, but we will just have to wait first to see the changes. But believe me, from wherever you are reading me from, it's nothing easy to have to live daily with these problems, thanks for reading.

Hola @theinfiltred muy interesante tu publicación, pero de verdad prefiero no debatir mucho de ella porque me altera un poquitico las cosas que hacen por acá y de la forma en que lo hacen, pero tu publicación sencillamente excelente. Gracias
