It's good to hear you got this sorted, but it should never have happened to start with.

I'm still shocked. I couldn't believe it when I saw the email this morning.

I've had several Motorola phones and been happy with them. They are basic, but I'm not going to spend that much on a phone. It seems to be fairly standard Android. The only really annoying thing is that it wants to install extra apps every month and I don't want them. Have click through a few screens to refuse them.

I didn't like the first one I bought, the Z2. This one was nice, I would have been satisfied using it for awhile. I generally take the free phone or the cheapest phone available when I start a new plan. That's why I was so upset, it was the first time I spent the extra money on something better.

I hear Google are putting more restrictions on Android, but there's not much in the way of real alternatives. I don't want an Apple.

I don't want an Apple either. I could have sworn Ubuntu had a phone OS they were working on, then it just sort of faded away. There is also Graphene https://grapheneos.org/ which looks pretty interesting. You're right though, not a lot of alternatives.
