🇪🇸 ~ Tengo esta mini laptop conmigo hace muchos años, tiene capacidad limitada y el único sistema operativo que se le pudo instalar para convertirla en "medio funcional" fue el sistema Ubuntu; durante todos estos años la utilizo para guardar archivos variados y tareas muy básicas.
🇺🇸 ~ I've had this mini laptop for many years now; it has limited capacity, and the only operating system that could be installed on it to make it “somewhat functional” was Ubuntu. Over the years, I've used it to store various files and perform very basic tasks.

Entonces solo por curiosidad, que podría llamar hasta presentimiento, mientras revisaba qué respaldos tenía en ella hasta ahora se me ocurrió sacar un viejo disco duro externo que dejó de funcionar un día hace muchísimo tiempo.
So, just out of curiosity—or maybe even a hunch—while I was checking what backups I had on it so far, it occurred to me to pull out an old external hard drive that had stopped working a long time ago.
Lo conecté a ella a ver si reaccionaba, ¡Y EN EFECTO REACCINÓ!, me sorprendió muchísimo. Ese disco duro de 500 GB simplemente en otras computadoras y laptops no reacciona. Me negué a desecharlo por muchos muchos años con la esperanza de algún día poder recuperar algo de lo que guardé en él... y aquí estamos.
I connected it to see if it would respond, AND SURE ENOUGH, IT DID! I was really surprised. That 500 GB hard drive just doesn’t work on other computers or laptops. I refused to throw it away for many, many years, hoping that someday I’d be able to recover something from what I’d saved on it… and here we are.

✦ Pase todo un día revisando las carpetas, hay muchísimas: Proyectos, fotos de viajes, cumple años, reuniones, viajes, bocetos, trabajos, hay muchísimas cosas valiosas que había creído perdidas para siempre ✦
✦ Pero por las circunstancias tan inusuales tuve mucho miedo que en cualquier momento ocurriera algún fallo extraño y volviera a perder acceso a la unidad ✦
✦ Por eso decidí extraer muy lentamente lo que me pareció más importante, en caso esta fuera una ocasión única y la unidad volviera a su estado de bello durmiente ✦
Esta situación fue muy rara, no se qué daño tiene la unidad, no se por qué o qué la hizo reaccionar. Llegué a enviarla con técnicos para tratar de repararla o poder extraer algo de ella y la respuesta fue siempre la misma, "esta inservible", pero acá estamos.
This was a very strange situation. I don't know what's wrong with the unit, and I don't know why or what caused it to malfunction. I even sent it to technicians to try to repair it or salvage something from it, but the response was always the same: “It's beyond repair.” Yet here we are.

Me pareció entrañable que el disco duro decidiera despertar de su coma con un sistema operativo como este en una laptop que muchos podrían considerar obsoleta. Si alguien en la comunidad tiene idea del motivo o las razones para esto, me encantaría saberlo. Por cierto, el disco a continuado reaccionando cada vez que lo conecto a la mini laptop, lo que me ha permitido extraer todos los valiosos recuerdos que tengo allí muy lentamente con ayuda de los pendrive.
I found it quite touching that the hard drive decided to wake up from its slumber with an operating system like this on a laptop that many might consider obsolete. If anyone in the community has any idea why this happened, I’d love to hear it. By the way, the drive has continued to respond every time I connect it to the mini laptop, which has allowed me to slowly retrieve all the precious memories I have stored there using USB flash drives.

Según Google las causas de que otros sistemas operativos o equipos no reconozcan esta unidad puede deberse a distintas causas, pero yo recuerdo muy bien que usé bastante esta unidad y jamás me dio problemas, hasta que un día decidió no reaccionar más.
Acá leyendo, puede ser falta de letra en la unidad, NTFS corrupto o formato incompatible; no soy una persona especialmente versada en temas informáticos pero estoy muy, muy feliz de que por fin el disco se dejara reconocer, simplemente es una noticia que quería compartir porque me ha alegrado como no tienen idea.
Estoy recuperando fotos de cuando era adolescente, de mi mascota -hoy fallecida- cuando era un bebé, de mis primeros viajes sola y también en grupo por el país, incluso capturas de pantalla sobre temas importantes, un largo etc.
Si tienes una anécdota parecida a esta o algún consejo para evitar que futuras unidades presenten el miso problema, estaré muy feliz de leerte en los comentarios 💻 💙
According to Google, there are various reasons why other operating systems or computers might not recognize this drive, but I clearly remember using it quite a bit and never having any problems with it—until one day it just stopped responding.
From what I’ve read, it could be a missing drive letter, a corrupted NTFS file system, or an incompatible format; I’m not particularly tech-savvy, but I’m so, so happy that the drive is finally being recognized—it’s just news I wanted to share because it’s made me happier than you can imagine.
I’m recovering photos from when I was a teenager, of my pet—who has since passed away—when I was a baby, of my first trips alone and also in groups around the country, including screenshots of important topics, and much more.

Oye que genial poder recuperar la información de un disco que parecía perdido, tengo un caso similar pero es más por falla de case externo que se averió.
No soy técnico pero recuerdo que Windows solo lee de forma nativa los formatos NTFS, FAT32 y exFAT, y si ese disco fue formateado previamente en un sistema propio de Linux como ext4, jamás Windows lo iba a reconocer, por esa razón los técnicos jamás supieron porque no podían acceder a el.
Ese dato esta buenísimo, muchas gracias Daniel, acá haciendo memoria creo que fue eso. Ojala tu caso tenga una solución satisfactoria. Hoy todavía cuando acceso al disco para seguir rescatando data de a poquito soy tan feliz 🤍 👏
