The Historic district New Bedford
The Historic district New Bedford
Good Morning all I hope life is treating you well
Thanks for al the kind support yesterday when I mentioned I was going in for a small medical procedure, the procedure itself went well but initial results not quite ideal, the DR is waiting for biopsy results and a genetic test to be done and will see me again at the end of the month, but at this stage he believes the best course moving forward is surgery to remove part of my colon, but will see what the test results show before I concern myself with that
Thanks again
For todays post I am sharing a few shots of a walk I took one morning up from the port where I parked and around the historic district in downtown New Bedford
Starting with this shot of some of the restaurants and shops there

I mostly edit shots when I walk here in Mono, but decided to edit a few in color for this post.
I often when I refer to the streets in this area call them cobblestones as that is what most call them, but I thought in this post I would call these ones what they are which is Belgian blocks and not cobblestones.
and you may wonder what the difference is, I know I did when I first heard of Belgian blocks a long while back so here goes.
Belgian Block are extremely large rectangular or sometimes cubical shaped pieces of stone can be upwards of 10 to 12” in length and height. They are typically made of granite and used for paving, borders and a wide variety of landscaping projects.
The term Belgian Block may have some historical connection to when European ships set sail from ports such as Antwerp, in search of goods to trade. Large blocks of stone were used as ballast for ships that were too light.
Belgian Blocks are rectangular or square whereas cobblestones are round.
Cobblestones are typically pulled from river beds where the years have worn away the rough edges and created the soft edged cobblestones.
In contrast Belgian Block were quarried and carry the shape and tool markings that come with that process. The rougher texture may have given them a rough and noisy ride on carriages and today’s automobiles but that rough texture and angular shape was imperative to creating a good solid foundation for the horse drawn carts of their day.

now I have walked by this building a few times but it was recently repainted and caught my eye that morning, partially because of the name on it JJ Best Banc @ Co
Since I go by JJ to most people I wish it was my building LOL

Beautiful photos... I'm not a morning person, my bed holds me prisoner 😀, so I appreciate your photos, which almost make me want to get up.
I wish you all the best for your medical result
Have a great day
Thanks and you may not be a morning person but you probably enjoy more sunsets than I do :)
Wow, this looks like a very quaint little town! I love it when downtown's have areas like this that just have that certain look and feel to them! You captured it all really well! I almost feel like I am there! Best of luck with your medical stuff! I hope it all ends up being alright.
Thanks
I have to go tot he Drs office and do a survey and then a genetic test probably will go Thursday morning as I have another Drs appointment tomorrow, but I just got my Brothers genetic results and I suspect as does the Dr that I have the same gener that leaves me at rick for Colon cancer especially based on how each time I have more polyps and large ones, so I am fairly sure surgery is onthe cards, but best to be on top of it I think
Ah man, I am sorry to hear that. Yes, getting on top of it early is always a good thing. I had my first colonoscopy this past year. I still have a little bit until I hit 50, but I figured better safe than sorry.
Getting them early I now say us good advise I didn't have my first till I was 62 and had them 3 times now every 6 months as I had 10 polyps on first 12 on second and then yesterday 20 and a few of them fairly big
Oh dang, that is scary. Yeah, definitely better to get them early. I think they are recommending 45 now.
My family with the genetic result fir my brother recommend starting at 20 now
Wow!
👍🙂👍
An interesting "asterisk" effect from the burning lanterns in the first pictures.
if that building was yours, you would not only own a bank but the BEST bank 😂
Lol so true
I wish you a speedy recovery. The photos you took are really great, the granite blocks look enormous.
Thanks so much
I'll pray for a successful surgery, @tattoodjay.
Best to have it removed.
Beautiful photos. Too bad it isn't your building (yet), hehehe!
!PIZZA
thanks not 100% certain on if they will recommend the surgery, but Dr thinks thats most likely, time will teall and I will deal with that when I get to it
