Technology And How Problems Are Overcome

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

Many point to technological problems as obstacles for something being implemented like it is forever. We see this in many areas where the impetiments are truly only temporary.

In this video I discuss how EVs are similar to mobile phones. People questioned the number of phones we would see yet today there are billions globally. How could that be when there were few networks 40 years ago.

Technological evolution mimics natural evolution, in that every new advancement creates new problems, which require new solutions that lead to new advancements, which create new problems and on and on it goes.

I recently re-learned that human intelligence evolved almost incidentally as a result of walking upright, which required our hips to slightly close, meaning in order to give birth our skulls need to be incomplete to squeeze through the pelvis. Thus our brains are allowed to continue growing and developing outside the womb, rather than get it all done in a short window. Of course, there are other factors, and this is a severe over-simplification, but I think the point is solid.

All of this is part of a complex organism. When we look at the jungle, trees are not deterred by impediments. They end up figuring a solution.

Summary:
In this video, the speaker discusses the advancements in technology, particularly focusing on electric vehicles and the infrastructure supporting them, such as charging stations. He highlights how challenges in the past have been overcome, like range anxiety, and how the adoption of open charging standards is leading to exponential growth in the charging network. The speaker also talks about the potential for major companies like Walmart to invest in charging stations and how batteries can help stabilize the energy grid by utilizing arbitrage. He emphasizes the importance of considering future technological advancements and criticizes the tendency of Wall Street analysts to overlook or misunderstand emerging trends.

Detailed Article:
The video starts with the speaker addressing the audience and delving into the topic of technology, particularly in relation to Tesla but applicable to various other fields as well. He points out that over the past decade, challenges faced by Tesla have been conquered, emphasizing the progress made despite the hurdles. One significant challenge mentioned is range anxiety, which has notably improved with the development and adoption of the North American charging standard spearheaded by Tesla.

The discussion then transitions to the exponential growth in the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, with the speaker noting a significant annual increase in the number of charging stations in the United States. This growth is attributed to the embracing of open standards not only by Tesla but also by other major charging station manufacturers, suggesting a promising future for electric vehicle adoption.

Furthermore, the speaker introduces the idea of utilizing spaces like Walmart parking lots and dwindling shopping malls for hosting charging stations. This potential expansion of charging infrastructure presents an opportunity for significant growth in the sector and could cater to the increasing demands for electric vehicle charging.

As the conversation progresses, the focus shifts to the role of batteries in smoothing out the energy grid's fluctuations. The speaker explains how batteries can optimize energy usage by charging during off-peak hours and discharging during high-demand periods, a concept known as arbitrage. By leveraging batteries in this manner, energy consumption can be more efficiently managed, contributing to a more stable and sustainable grid system.

The speaker then critiques Wall Street analysts for often overlooking or misjudging emerging technologies, drawing parallels to past instances where major technological shifts were underestimated, such as the rise of mobile phones and companies like Amazon, Apple, and Tesla. The video concludes with a reflection on the importance of recognizing and adapting to technological advancements to stay ahead of the curve, highlighting the limitations of traditional forecasting methods used by Wall Street.

In essence, the video provides a comprehensive analysis of the technological advancements in the electric vehicle sector, emphasizing the potential for growth and the critical importance of embracing innovation to navigate future developments successfully.
