Technology and porn go together.
This is the chicken or the egg. What leads the way? It appears that most technological breakthroughs were popularized by the porn industry. Whether we look at the VHS, Internet, webcam, streaming, and even VR, porn was an early (and huge use case).
Now we are starting to see AI generated porn.
Is this going to be the next big thing? Only time will tell but many feel that generative AI is going to radically change the world. Here is where the porn industry steps in.
Early Technology
We are still in the early stages. This is true for the technology in general but also with AI generated porn.
If this follows technological trends, we should see the technology improve over the coming years. We see new innovations are of poor quality and expensive to start. Over time, it improves while also getting less costly. A lot of the generative AI projects out there are already free, so that isn't much of an issue.
At some point, we will not be able to distinguish between what is AI generated porn or the real thing. This is a prequel to what Hollywood can expect.

Once again, we only need to look at AI generated porn to see the future. If this starts to take off, there is no reason to believe that makers of other films and television shows will not follow the same path. In fact, we are already seeing this in action.
There is software being developed in the follow areas:

- AI generated characters
- AI generated images
- AI generated faces
- AI generated text
- AI generated video
How much of Hollywood is affected by this? The answer is most.
Abundance
AI generated porn is going to create abundance. We are going to see even more content than we have now. Each new technology simply makes it easier to create more.
The same is true for all other content.
Consider how much YouTube changed the world of video. Whereas we use to have only broadcast television, there are now people who spend hours per day on that application. For the moment, someone has to record and edit the videos.
What happens when AI generated content is available to most anyone.? How much more will this create?
Consider the fact that the Internet changed the distribution system. Even though it did nothing for content creation, it resulted in a radical increase in the amount of material available.
The next phase is technology altering the content creation realm. Here is where generative AI is going to have a major impact.
OnlyFans Disruption
OnlyFans, relatively speaking, is a new player in the world. Over the last few years, "OnlyFans girls" has become part of the mainstream vocabulary.
We are now seeing the human models threatened by technology. AI generative porn is already moving to this realm. There are reports of people setting up account, putting up AI models, and raking in the cash.
Then we have an OnlyFans model who earns up to $500,000 a month on the website by using a chatbot to engage with her fans.

While the last one is lagging still, it is moving in that direction.
Nevertheless, it is easy to see how the rest became standards for all of entertainment. The same is likely true for this technology.

Why are hands required? Sure for robotics yes. But do you need artificial hands for bookkeeping? For software coding? For script writing?
No. AI is not just robots.
My point was that, at the moment, AI lags in its ability to create convincing looking hands, which is why we see barely a single hand in the image that illustrates the blog post. To your main point - "Here is where the porn industry steps in" - I would guess that AI-generated porn could well become the cutting edge of improving how AI creates images (and then animations) of hands.
