AI Adoption: It Will Be "Normal"

avatar

Humans tend to be slow to change. This is something that becomes evident when dealing with technology. Technical advancements far outpaces humans ability to embrace the changes.

We are seeing some dispute about AI generated content and whether people will accept it. For the most part, the consensus appears to be "no".

When diving into this, there are a few things we need to look at. Why is this the case? What is driving it and, most importantly, will it change?

Here we will dig into this and try to forecast what will happen.

AI Adoption: It Will Be "Normal"

What will it be like when robots are walking among us?

When that happens, it will be normal. There is no difference in us navigating robots compared to automobiles.

AI is generating a lot of buzz. We are seeing content out there. Will this be accepted by people?

At this point, we can say it is not. People are rejecting it. Many will proclaim they will never embrace AI generated content. To me, this is incorrect.

The summarized version of this is we will embrace AI generated content.

Our present challenge is two fold:

  • AI content is new and humans are still trying to adjust
  • the content is of low quality

A lot of what we see that is generated by AI is still awful. People are not adept at using these tools. This is compounded by the fact the applications are still improving.

The solution to both of these is time.

Humans Embracing Technology

For those old enough, there was a time when people swore they would never enter their credit card online. The Internet was rather new to most people and the idea of just throwing one's credit card out there made no sense.

Of course, today, we look at this as foolish.

Humans do ultimately embrace technology. The pace might not be instant but, as people get accustomed to things, we are see this change.

With AI content, there is a flood of it appearing. From what I conclude, the value is presently with information. AI can generate, with reasonable accuracy, information. This can be in the form of summaries of articles such as what Google and Facebook are doing. The result here becomes a force multiplier as more content is generated based upon what is being created.

News agencies started to increase their use of AI a couple years ago. Whatever the site that one is getting information from, there is a strong chance that a portion of what is being read was from AI. Certainly, there is human editing for accuracy and grammar issues but that might be it.

This means we are already starting to consume AI content to some degree.

Will this spread even further?

My answer is yes...eventually.

AI Generated Entertainment

Ben Affleck made news with his statement that movies will be the last thing replaced by AI. This might be true with regards to chronological order. That said, it does not mean it will be a long term situation.

We discussed how this is a bottom up approach. AI is presently going after low hanging fruit. Over time, as the capabilities expand, so does the disruption.

I forecast that, by the end of 2025, most of the video advertisements on social media will be mostly AI generated. Is this a feature length film? Of course not. It does show, however, how it starts to work its way into different areas.

If people are watching AI advertisements, why is it so hard to conclude they will watch "AI shows"?

The answer appears to be that AI lacks the creativity to come up with anything new. On this point, I disagree. While I will not say it is conscious, the fact that it is continually being fed more human generated content means that AI is able to keep pace with us.

In other words, AI is nothing more than an extension of ourselves. Organizing information in new ways is the basis of creativity.

What this means is that a significant portion of entertainment, at some point, will be AI generated. There will still be a market for human creations yet that will be the premium.

In Closing

There will be a point where people consume AI content without giving it a thought. It will become normal to read or enjoy something that was generated by a computer.

We do not question who compiles and performs the calculations for the numbers we see online. The number of views for a video on X or YouTube is calculated by a machine yet nobody gives it second thought.

For the moment, people do not believe the masses will change. History shows they always do. It is just at a slower pace as compared to technology overall.

I think we will start at some point saying what AI generated content is excepted and what is not excepted. Because AI gives voices to the less skilled or more challenged individual. Someone may not be able to articulate what they are trying to say but the AI is able to understand and present in a way they want for them. !PIZZA

It's crazy to think about how quickly technology evolves, and even though AI content might not be something we fully embrace yet, it's definitely becoming a part of our daily lives. I remember when online shopping seemed sketchy, and now it's normal! I think over time, AI generated content will become more accepted as we get used to it, just like how we got used to other tech advancements

The missing elephant in the room here is why aren't humans yet willing to accept?

The answer is because well instinctively feel this isn't a good thing. It is, ultimately force fed to us for capitalist gains, exploiting the fact that humans inherently 'get used to it' very quickly.

Even the most extreme things like war, we simply get used to it in a matter of days or weeks - even those participating.

The practical upshot is, yes we end up taking it on, whether we like it or not, and we forget exactly what we lost as a consequence. And, we have already lost a LOT to technology. An insurmountable loss of humanity, faded away into the abyss.

Small things, things people will be born not even knowing about, while those who did, die out. A love and passion for vintage cars, rich in human character - replaced by stale, sterile Teslas designed loosely after dystopian robot movies like I, Robot.

The inefficiencies of, say, cooking, christmas dinners, eating with your loved one, will be replaced with pill food, hypothetically. One generation later, they'll never know what it was like, and simply see that past relic of food as a primitive waste of time.

But, we will accept it all, no matter what.
