Nvidia has partnered with Utilidata to create an artificial intelligence (AI) platform designed to strengthen the operations of the American power grid. Utilidata is making waves in the grid management space and is surprisingly well connected and respected in the industry.

According to information communicated by Utilidata, the grid faces challenges from three distinct issues going forward. Storms have hit the power grid in the past decade much more than has been historically experienced, putting the grid at risk, more people are powering more items using the power grid and manufacturing operations put an increasing power load on the grid. Utilidata uses AI to maximize the efficiency of the grid and shows solutions to issues that may arise.

As the green energy revolution takes hold and more electric vehicles (EV) are purchased and used, we need to account for this in our plans for the grid operations. EV will continue to take.thr marketshare from ICE vehicles, and as the population of the United States and World grows so will the load on the grid. Storms are increasing in power and frequency and recent ice storms in Texas showed the vulnerability of the grid, which needs to be taken into consideration in the present and future.

Utilidata is an open source AI program that helps show the conditions of the grid and how problems could arise. Utilidata uses machine learning techniques and smart meters to reduce energy usage in strategic ways. The company partnered with Nvidia in 2021 and has worked with a wide range of utilities and companies to help move energy to consumers in a way that reduces waste and moves innovation. They are worth a look, and will help consumers reduce energy usage and waste overall.
