TOP-TIER TECH TRENDS FROM BACK IN THE DAY
This prompt topic took me back in time, and while it was nostalgic to relish some of the memories that came to mind, I was reminded how very quickly things change. How quickly a lot of the trends, gadgets, and even apps that are in vogue and rhat sone persons would do almost anything to get now would hold no value in a few years from this time.
I recall that year when every home did not own TV sets. And if you did at your home, as a kid, and amongst your peers particular kids who didn't, you were king. It's just like being the kid who owns the football. Everybody sucks up to you, and you make the rules.
This topic especially took me back to the days of 2go. For those who may not know, 2go is a social media application just like Facebook and the rest that we have now. However, there are a few features that distinguish it from them. There were features like the level leader boards, the chatrooms, etc.
2go was fun. Social media apps nowadays are better advanced and all of that, but I don't think that there's much thrill associated with them as was with 2go. Back then, those who didn't have phones would use their friend's or parents phone to open an account. It almost made people mad(not literally). I remember that there was even a Nollywood movie produced about it. I think that the name wss ndi ara 2go(mad people of 2go).
Oh, there was even one produced for Blackberry. The film title was 'Blackberry babes' or so. Using Blackberry at the time could be equated to using an iPhone now. Not just any iPhone, but the latest model.
Before even the e banter between iPhone and Samsung, there was the legendary banter between 2go and BBM(Blackberry messenger)users.
In fact, back then, there was an inner banter between different levels of 2go. I recall leaving my data on throughout the night to move quickly from the Novice to amateur and all the way to master. If you were on the amateur level, some people wouldn't reply to your message.
This guy in my neighborhood reached the highest level on 2go. He was very popular that year, and he was a snob. If you were not on his level or anywhere close, he would not reply to you. He walked with a chip on his shoulder. It wasn't even the time yet when one could do some influencing gigs or get paid for attaining thar rank. Them de always gather beat am for street for any small fuck up for that year. Guy was too pompous.
We were just teenagers then.
KaiiiI i miiss those days.
I also remember dropping this fine girl message on 2go. She was on "professional" level while I was on Enthusiast. I liked her and thought thar dropping an'Hi" message wouldn't be a bad idea. This girl replied me saying, 'Go bk 2 ur lvl.' Yes, just as written.
Those were the days when them been swear for us and writing in full. We were a walking, breathing, shorthand system. The days of "brb- be right back, g2g-got to go, nvm-nevermind." We could make a ten-page note fit into one page with shorthand. That year sef, if you no Sabi the thing, body go de pepper you. Wait, where do you all think that HBD and api bufdae came from? Lol.
After then came the banter between BBM and 2go. Because BBM was exclusive to Blackberry devices, you can only share your BBM pin(just like an iphone id). if you have a Blackberry. It was used by the big boys and girls. If your phone no reach, shame no go gree you bring am out. It was peak fooling.
Time flys. So much has changed but nothing is new. Technology will continue to improve and it's beautiful to see.
Tnx 4 stopin by. Lmao!
