Living in Nigeria: My Personal Journey Through Different Weather Seasons

If there is something that goes a long way to influence our daily lifestyle and activities that we always do, I will say it is weather condition and I will say this is common in almost every part of the world most especially in Nigeria my own country. Nigeria as a country in west Africa is known to have a lot of weather condition depending on the season. We have the harmattan weather condition, we have the rain and we even have the storm weather condition which sometimes can be attributed to the dry season.

In one point to the other, all of these weather condition have a way of affecting our agriculture, our transportation and generally the lifestyle of every Nigerian. Let me briefly talk about the types of weather that we have in my country Nigeria. Generally we have only the rainy season and the dry season and they work differently at one part of the year.

The rainy season which is a lot of people favourite including mine works and pick around April every year and it last to around October. Kind of 5 months every year. Though the volume of rainfall differ in different regions of the country. People in the south in my country will experience more rain than people in the north. You will all agree with me that we can not deny the importance of rainy season. It helps to always put things in shape most especially the aspect of agriculture. During the rainy season, it helps the farmers to grow their corps and even harvest it.

But even though the rainy season have it's own advantages, it also comes with its own disadvantages and one of it is the aspect of whenever there is a heavy rainfall, it can lead to flooding which might not be easy to handle. Sometimes flooding in my country and even my region causes loss of lives and properties and sometimes it can even affect transportation and many other things.

Now talking about the second season which is called the harmattan season. Of course the harmattan season will come before the dry season and this particular season always happens around November of every year to February of every new year. During this particular season, the weather will be so cold and so dusty. Most Nigerians will experience dry skin, some will see their lips cracking and even affecting their respiratory issues. But a whole lot of people always prefer the cold period because of the cold temperature.

The hot season in my country will now start fully around March and during this time, the weather condition is always unbearable. Everything will be so hot and dusty. There will be so much heat that sometimes people find it hard to sleep without fan or fresh air. Not only that, during this dry season and weather conditions, it will cause a whole lot of people to always drink plenty of water which can affect the activities of the day.

Back to my favourite weather. It will definitely be the rainy season just like I mentioned earlier. Even though rainy season might come with its own disadvantages like the flooding issue I discussed about, but I strongly believe that it has a whole lot of advantages that it offers. I strongly love the rainy season because it has a way of balancing the weather condition. During the rainy season, it is neither too hot and it is not also too cold. It is really so balanced and that is why I love it. Not only that, it brings a lot of benefits most especially in the aspect of agriculture. Without the rainy season, the farmers will definitely suffer as there will he no rain that will make their crop to grow which should provide food for us.
