YouTuber modified an original πŸ“Ÿ Game Boy 😱 to mine Bitcoin

YouTuber (Stacksmashing) estimates that it will take millions of billions of years to mine a bitcoin.

A computer security researcher managed to make Nintendo's first major handheld console suitable for mining cryptocurrencies.

According to a recent YouTube video, user Stacksmashing uses Nintendo Game Boy hardware first released in 1989 as a starting point for Bitcoin (BTC) mining.

Since the game console has no built-in wireless capabilities (and largely before the Internet era), Stacksmashing stated that he uses a Raspberry Pi microcontroller board to connect to the game console's link cable port and USB flash memory card to establish a connection to the BTC. Node running from the computer.

My goal is to use the original, unmodified Game Boy, Stacksmashing said.
I want to put a cartridge in it and start mining.

Stacksmashing wrote his own mining code for the Game Boy's read-only memory, embedded mining software (modified for game consoles) and ran the BTC node on the computer.

The result is that the random number on the console's green screen has increased, indicating that the computer is trying to mine BTC.

The hash rate is excellent, about 0.8 hashes per second.

For some time, many cryptocurrency enthusiasts have been looking to gaming consoles to find a way to mine BTC or other cryptocurrencies, but generally the system is not designed or sold for miners.

Earlier this month, a Chinese software developer appeared to claim to have used the PlayStation 5 console to mine ether (ETH), thus misleading the entire cryptocurrency field.

Last year, early developer Jugable exposed rumors that one of its games could be used to hijack Nintendo Switch to mine BTC.

Stacksmashing's attempt to use 8-bit game consoles to mine cryptocurrencies may be outside the experience, but he said on Twitter that it is not yet complete.

The computer security researcher claims to use Nintendo Super Game Boy an adapter released in 1994, that allows you to play the original Game Boy games on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, to mine BTC in much the same way.

I must say, this is pretty amazing, even though it will take an extremely long time to mine a reasonable sat of btc. Well, I think it is a technological step in the right direction.
On a humorous note: maybe one day, I will start to mine btc with my TV set πŸ˜‚.

Nice piece buddy

Quite a lot, really not everyone can do that if you are not knowledgeable. Jajaja would be interesting to see that.

Creativity shines through when such breakthroughs are achieved. If it is achieved, we will return to the times of the Atari and all those old console games that marked the childhood of many, despite their simplicity. Sometimes incredible things can be achieved in old technological devices, that's why I still keep them.@tipu curate 2

That's right, it would be nice to see those devices again in the new era, maybe not so far behind in technology, for many are now looking for the best, but a remastering of those old devices.

Thanks for sharing.

Even if it's not very useful it's always good to know that wonderful people with their knowledge can do these kinds of things.

Hi dear friend @suanky

a Chinese software developer appeared to claim to have used the PlayStation 5 console to mine ether (ETH)

They should tell the secret I have a ps4, I think hackers can do everything, I am afraid that one day we will wake up and a hacker attack will destabilize the world of cryptocurrencies or the world in general.
greetings
