Thermoregulation in the aquarium.

Hello to all hobbyist aquarists and those who are just thinking about it to have an aquarium.

Earlier I talked about some aspects of this hobby and today I want to continue this conversation the purpose of which is to prevent mistakes that people often make in the early stages of their hobby.

We have already talked about water filtration and why it is needed what type of filter should be chosen their pros and cons, today we will talk about thermoregulation.

So why do you need to regulate the temperature in the aquarium and what to build on.

To begin with it must be said that a constant water temperature contributes to a healthy environment in your aquarium fish, like people can get sick and most diseases begin due to stress and temperature fluctuations are very stressful for their body.

You need to know that the temperature of the water in a glass of cold tap water that you left on the table will very soon be two degrees Celsius lower than the air temperature in your apartment.

On hot days it can rise to 28, if it is 30 degrees outside and in winter if the heating has not yet been turned on it can drop to 16 degrees Celsius and below.

Now, one more thing, when you create your aquarium you choose your inhabitants which you will buy at the pet store.

These are fish from different regions of our planet and if these fish for example from South America, like Discus in this photograph then you need to create a suitable temperature regime for them and this is 28-30 degrees Celsius not lower Otherwise these expensive fish will get sick and lose their appetite and fin rot candidiasis will begin and they will die.

But even if this happens it can be cured by raising the temperature in the aquarium to 32 degrees Celsius the disease-causing protein dies at this temperature.

Predatory piranhas most cichlids characin fish and many common fish like the same conditions as discus.

But keep in mind that the higher the temperature the less oxygen dissolved in the water therefore in such a temperature regime enhanced aeration is needed.

When choosing a thermostat rely on a simple calculation of 1 watt per 1 liter of water in the aquarium.

But a 25-watt thermostat will cope with heating water in an aquarium with a volume of 30 liters but it will consume more electricity it will turn off less often because its temperature sensor will be set by you to a certain temperature.

There are different types of thermostats different manufacturers and I will not advertise one person later we will talk about the pros and cons of different types of thermostats.

Some species of fish are less demanding on water temperature for example fish of the cyprinid order such as goldfish comets raukins lionheads koi and so on and some types of fish do not need to heat the water but to cool it so sterlet from the sturgeon detachment lived in my aquarium.

There are more nuances for example if you have a non-standard aquarium with a very large bottom area then heat loss will increase and you will need to take care of a backup thermostat.

This is what you need to know at the initial stage when choosing a thermostat.
