Drinking behind a closed door - Daru & Chakna !
Weekends often involve social gatherings with friends and family, where drinking is considered a normal part of the social experience. With less structured schedules on weekends, people have more time to engage in activities like going out to bars or attending parties, which often involve drinking. In my case, I usually avoid drinking alcohol. I have limited myself to ocassional beer and that too during extreme summer.
My friends alwsys insisted me to take a peg or two, but I never allow them to force me. I noticed they started neglecting me or not involving me in their weekends get together. Yesterday, I had oppurtunity to join one group, and took it as an oppurtunity to try a peg of Daru
Daru is a Hindi and Punjabi word that is a colloquial term for alcoholic beverages.
I know my friends and known one alwsys prefer to drink behind the close doors. It saves a lot of money and also take care of privacy. "Drinking behind a closed door" is generally interpreted as a metaphor for privacy when consuming alcohol, suggesting that someone wants to drink without being observed or judged by others. It could be due to social stigma around drinking, personal reasons for not wanting to disclose their alcohol consumption, or simply a desire for personal space while enjoying a beverage. I alwsys see them enjoying much behind the closed doors than being out in open or any restaurant.
I am familiar to such set up during my working days, when we used to visit friends home and eat joy the weekends. People often drink more on weekends because it is a time of relaxation and social engagement, providing a break from the stress of work and daily routines, allowing us to socialize with friends, attend events, and generally enjoy leisure time without the pressure of weekday responsibilities. I have seen people enjoying drinks as it works as a stress buster.
I alwsys enjoys the snacks and food that accompany with drinks. We call them chakna. This time around I have a lot of option to go through.
Chakna is a Hindi word that refers to snacks or finger foods that are eaten with alcohol. In English, you can describe chakna as "munchies" or "side-dishes". We have ample of varities this time. From cashew to sprouts to many other item.
The primary reason people consume chakna is to slow down the absorption of alcohol into the bloodstream by providing food in the stomach, preventing rapid intoxication while also adding flavor and texture to the drinking experience. It also helps us to drink more responsibly and enjoy the beverage longer.
It is important to be mindful of your alcohol intake and make healthy choices, especially during social situations on weekends. Being my first tume, I took a peg with soft drinks and keep enjoying the company of others. I am afraid if being intoxicated, and my friends were aware of it too. But at the end, I was OK, as I kept myself busy with chakna. I love the snacks more than the drinks. A good weekend experince for a lifetime.
Peace!!

You had a different kind of weekend with friends, I am very happy about that and yes, alcohol is also served here with accompaniments so that it doesn't go bad. And the best thing of all is when there is such a variety of food to go with it!
While my friends were busy with drinks, I was more happy to munch on the snacks, ....earlier, I ends up finishing all non veg snacks....may be that why they hesitate to call me 😉
I'd rather eat than drink too
🤣
See....mentorship going nicely
hahaha very good! You passed the test!🤣
Nice! I love cashew nuts a whole lot. 😍
I'd take your sound advice in relation to taking alcohol, but lucky me, I've got such a sweet tooth, I couldn't take alcohol for fun. It's so bitter. Don't bother trying to argue with me on that, hehe.
I've always known drinking on an empty stomach was bad, but I never really reasoned that pairing it with snacks could tone it down... I'll pass it on.
Kudos.
It good to have fun. Though it's not good to get drunk. Have a good day today.
