Upgrading to 5G: Solving Nigeria's Data Woes
It is no new thing that one of the things that people, mostly in Africa, suffer from is access to fast and cheap internet. Nigeria is not exempt, although there are places where we have fast internet, and it happens that my location is presently not one of these places. But this does not change the fact that data is expensive in the country.
It has become quite unproductive for me when I have no access to data or good internet. It always feels as if my heart is about to be removed. This is because most of the activities I have to do online are work-based and entertainment-based. I am the kind of person who prefers streaming movies instead of downloading them.
Since I know my problem, what is next is how I can solve it. Not too long after I started thinking of how to solve my problem, I got a text from MTN saying that my area has access to the 5G network, which means I can go to any store close by to get a 5G router to have a good browsing experience.
I was so curious about how true this is, so I had to search the web to see how strong 5G was in my location, and then I found out there is truly 5G, but it is quite low and not so strong. I began having mixed feelings about getting the router or not.
Then I spoke to Pearl about the issue and what she thinks; her reply was that having the 5G router is not a waste and that I can even use it in another place when I change locations, Since I would not remain in my present location forever. And I thought about this, and then I realised what she said was true. I decided to go ahead and get the 5G router and get it registered in her name.
The reason is that I have registered so many SIM cards with my NIN that I am not allowed to register more until I go to their headquarters for unlinking, which would be a lot of stress and money all together.
So Pearl registered the router with her details, and I got the router by trading 73 HBD for it. Although it has been two weeks now since I got this device, I just decided to write about it today.
So here is the picture:
Unfortunately, the router does not come with a battery inside; it has to be plugged directly in or used with a power bank, which works like a UPS and actually has Uninterrupted Power Supply as its name.
The power bank lasts for at least 6 hours for now. While using it today, it lasted for about 7 hours before showing low battery.
Another good thing about this router is that it comes with 100 GB of welcome bonus data, which is what I am using at the moment.
The challenge I would be facing next is how much data I would have to subscribe to monthly because of how much it takes. I use up to 5 GB a day and sometimes more, which is massive. This means I can't subscribe to a small amount of data if I want to enjoy this plan.
My plan to solve this issue is to save $120 to subscribe to a yearly plan and then receive 1 TB of data. With this, I would not have to worry about data for a long period of time.
But before then, I would be paying $17 per month for 150 GB until I fully raised the $120 for the yearly plan.

Fast internet access is very good and it increases one's productivity at work. Data subscription is expensive here and it is not as strong as it was before, almost everyone buys a monthly data subscription 2-3 times in a month; but we still buy it because we need it or maybe can't do without it.
If you're using minimum of 5gb/day, then you'd exhaust the 100gb within 20 days?....wow!. I guess 100gb is actually not much or enough for you for the work you do
Whatever would be used to generate more income for us, as far as it is original and reliable, it's a good to go for me. With the nature of your work honestly you need that device. I pray it gives you what you want.
If they had made a battery for it, it would have been better because using power bank or light to keep it on can be so frustrating. Well, I believe they will upgrade it subsequently, if not with the way power supply is poor in Nigeria, one may not really enjoy working with it.
Congratulations sir, please enjoy your data😁😁
