A Mixed Review of Petrol-to-Gas Generator Transformation

Last week, I wrote about converting generators from using Petrol as fuel to using gas. Presently, I have the equipment and have been able to change my caburator to a hybrid caburator, which means I can use both petrol and gas at any point I feel like. And here is a short review.

I totally have mixed feelings about it and cannot directly say this or that, but anyway, I would pour out my mind.

I got my order from Konga, which was where I ordered the hybrid caburator and the 12.5 kg of gas for my generator. The caburator came last week on Thursday, and gas arrived on Friday, which I immediately went to fill up with 4kg of gas.

The images above show the hybrid caburator, the gas regulator, and a 4-metre-long pipe.

I had already installed the gas with the generator, and my generator was able to work with it.

But;

I noticed that there is a change in the sound of my generator while it is running on gas; it makes more noise, and also, when I tried using my generator yesterday, my gas finished. I was a little worried that 4 kg of gas would finish in less than an hour.

This is totally different from the description and from my friends who are already using it. It is working very well for them and lasts way longer than what was the problem.

I took my gas container back to the gas filling station, where they could check it and see what was wrong, but they said nothing was wrong and that my gas was not leaking. Then, when the guy poured water on it and then pressed the container, he said gas was still in it and that it was okay now, but somehow, I still felt this thing would occur again.

I am beginning to have mixed feelings about whether I have made the right decision or not, but I cannot totally say yet. I need to spend more time testing it out and seeing how it goes before I can give a proper review.

At this moment, this is all I am facing regarding the conversion. I would have to contact a friend of mine if he faced this same issue because I am a little frustrated!

Man, I am fascinated about the concept of using cooking gas with a petrol generator. As I have been hearing around, it seems more economical compared with petrol as fuel. However, bro, I am sceptical about it.

Petrol generators were designed for petrol fuel. Making such modification that is out of the scope it's design doesn't sit well with me.

There are many things to consider. For one, the increased noise you are observing is probably due to the fact that the combustion is quite different with gas. There's more combustion with gas, therefore it is louder.

Another concern for me is safety. Gas is more volatile and probably more flammable than petrol. Keeping it around a generator when it is running is super dangerous to me.

I'm curious to learn about your discoveries in the future with this transformation. I hope it's all worth it in the end. We are all seeking for ways to survive in this economy after all.

yeah about the combustion, since the gas is in an open environment then this means that if there is any leakages, it would be easy for it to neutralize with the air around hereby making it harmless unlike the way it is when we use it in the house; you know an enclosed surrounding.

Why I decided to make use of gas is I have people that I know that have actually done it and they say it is working very well for them. So I decided to use it. The thought of actually being able to use 1kg gas for 4hours could not be ignored my brother.

It's discouraging when you don't get the same description from your friends who are already using it. Yesterday when we talked about this gas, I felt it was a leakage issue. Now , I am confused on what the problem could be. Maybe you should consult any of those your friends using it,if they can visit your house for practical testing, it might make a difference.

I guess there is a particular type of gen that works well for this
Someone told me but I forgot

I have heard a lot about the use of cooking gas instead of petrol, I thought it was a joke until today. To get a result you can conclude on, you need to keep trying and give give it more time.

I am glad I didn't miss the update, I remembered the first post and hope this turns out well.

I actually don't anyone using it at the moment and could have just asked if they faced the same issue. I guess that the generator might just be getting used to gas since it operates on fuel before.

Let's see how it goes.
