Bookmory: Reading Tracker

A medida que pasan los años, rastreamos nuestros libros de diferentes maneras. Aunque crecí rodeada literalmente de libros, no recuerdo a mi mamá haciendo un registro de todo lo que se haya leído, sería interesante saber cuantos libros se ha leído, yo digo que al menos unos 1000 libros (y probablemente sean más). A pesar de que yo sí leía bastante, me he dado cuenta de que no recuerdo todo lo que leí. Sin embargo, desde hace unos cuantos años par acá, he buscado las maneras de registrar todo lo que he ido leyendo.

As the years go by, we track our books in different ways. Although I grew up literally surrounded by books, I don't remember my mom keeping track of everything read, it would be interesting to know how many books she read, I say at least about 1000 books (and it's probably more). Although I did read quite a bit, I have found that I don't remember everything I read. However, for a few years now, I've been looking for ways to record everything I've read.

Por un lado, descubrí páginas como https://quelibroleo.com/ en el que solo porque buscaba libros di con esta página de reseñas. En el que podía dar puntuaciones a las lecturas que haya hecho. Luego me desaparecí un montón de tiempo del mundo de los libros y cuando vuelvo también hay muchas cosas y aplicaciones. Conocí páginas como Goodreads y se desató la locura. Quelibroleo sigue funcionando, pero Goodreads es lo mejor para ver cuáles son las tendencias, así que arreglé mi perfil y empecé a agregar libros leídos y todos los que quiero leer.

On the one hand, I discovered pages like https://quelibroleo.com/ where just because I was looking for books I found this review page. In which I could give ratings to the readings I have done. Then I disappeared a lot of time from the world of books and when I come back there are also many things and applications. I found out about sites like Goodreads and the craze was on. Quelibroleo still works, but Goodreads is the best to see what the trends are, so I fixed my profile and started adding books read and all the ones I want to read.

Un día metida en BookTok (viendo videos acerca de libros en TikTok), una tiktoker habló de una aplicación para reseñar libros. Ojo, solo lo nombró, no explicó que era. Solo dijo que puntuaba sus libros en esa aplicación y yo salí corriendo a la Play Store y me lo descargué ¿Aplicación? Obviamente, debía tener esa opción a la mano porque estoy loca por estas cosas.

El nombre de la aplicación es BOOKMORY y aquí puedes hacer muchas cosas, no solo puntuar libros, sino registrar tus lecturas, contabilizarlas y calcular el tiempo que lees cada una, y muchas cosas más que les comentaré a continuación.

Lo primero que deben hacer es descargar la aplicación en la Play Store y una vez instalada les saldrá la opción de transferir todo lo que tengan en Goodreads a la aplicación a través de un archivo que se descargan en la página. De esta manera pueden sincronizar absolutamente todo lo que tengan en Goodreads y estar al día con todo. Luego puedes tener todos tus libros en la aplicación, puntuados, tu data de libros leídos hasta la fecha y los libros que quieres leer.

! [English] One day while on BookTok (watching videos about books on TikTok), a tiktoker talked about a book review app. Mind you, she just named it, she didn't explain what it was. She just said she rated her books on that app, and I ran out to the Play Store and downloaded it App? Obviously, I had to have that option on hand because I'm crazy about this stuff.

The name of the app is BOOKMORY and here you can do many things. Not only rate books, but record your readings, count them and calculate the time you read each one, and many more things that I will tell you about below.

The first thing you need to do is download the application from the Play Store and once installed you will get the option to transfer everything you have on Goodreads to the application through a file that you download on the page. This way you can sync absolutely everything you have on Goodreads and stay up to date with everything. Then you can have all your books in the app, rated, your data of books read to date and the books you want to read.

Si quieres agregar un libro nuevo, simplemente tocas en Add a book y te llevará a un buscador en donde solo debes agregar el nombre del libro o del autor y te aparecerá la lista de todos los títulos que aparecen. Cuando abres uno de estos, te aparece toda la información del libro que vas a incluir en la lista, incluyendo el formato del libro que vas a leer, si es en físico o en digital.

If you want to add a new book, simply click on Add a book, and it will take you to a search engine. You only have to add the name of the book or author, and you will see a list of all the titles that appear. When you open one of these, you will see all the information of the book you are going to include in the list, including the format of the book you are going to read, if it is physical or digital.

Podemos empezar los libros que empezamos a leer dentro de la aplicación, incluso los que estás leyendo en paralelo. A estos le podemos asignar etiquetas de géneros que debemos agregar nosotros mismos manualmente. Otra cosa que podemos hacer es agregar citas de los libros que vamos leyendo. Ya sea escrita por ti, desde una fotografía, o por la cámara de tu celular que está conectada a la aplicación. Este último método es maravilloso porque tomas la fotografía y te salen subrayadas todas las palabras de la página que capturaste, y luego en la aplicación debes seleccionar el texto que debes citar y aparecerá citado.

We can start the books we start reading within the application, even the ones we are reading in parallel. To these, we can assign genre tags that we must add ourselves manually. Another thing we can do is to add quotes from the books we are reading. Either written by you, from a photograph, or by the camera of your cell phone that is connected to the application. This last method is wonderful because you take the picture and all the words of the page you captured are underlined, and then in the application you must select the text to be quoted, and it will appear quoted.

También puedes observar los libros leídos por meses gracias al calendario que aparece en el menú, así como las estadísticas diarias y anuales. En las imágenes pueden observar los libros puntuados y con las fechas de lectura, estas información fue importada directamente desde Goodreads lo que es genial porque no debo incluir libro por libro nuevamente.

You can also see the books read per month thanks to the calendar that appears in the menu, as well as the daily and yearly statistics. In the images you can see the books scored and with the dates of reading, this information was imported directly from Goodreads which is great because I don't have to include book by book again.

Y ahora la razón por la que me encantó la aplicación: estadísticas. Como buena Bióloga, las estadísticas son parte de mi vida y me encantan. Pero estas estadísticas muestran cosas como cuantos libros lees al mes, tiempo que lees al día, los autores, el tipo de formato del libro y las editoriales. Hay muchas otras cosas y funciones en la aplicación, pero debes pagar.

And now the reason I loved the app: statistics. As a good Biologist, statistics are part of my life and I love them. But these stats show things like how many books you read per month, time you read per day, the authors, the type of book format and the publishers. There are many other things and features in the app, but you have to pay.

Además de todo lo que les dije, pueden editar la interfaz de la aplicación por tema. Puedes agregar colores, editar el tipo de letra y muchas otras cosas. Algo que casi se me escapa es que tiene un temporizador que va midiendo el tiempo que utilizas para leer. Solo debes darle play y empezar a leer y cuando terminas, lo paras. Este tiempo se agrega a tus estadísticas. La verdad yo no lo uso mucho, porque aunque desde que tengo el Kindle me concentro más en la lectura y menos en el celular. Muchas veces tomo el celular para revisar algún mensaje y se me olvida pausar el temporizador.

Para finalizar, debo decirles cuál es mi verdadera emoción con todo esto. Y es que siempre he querido saber la cantidad de libro que me he leído en mi vida, y sería interesante que para los finales de mi existencia pueda leer una gran parte de los mejores. También llevo un conteo de películas, pero eso es otra historia y una aplicación mucha más robusta de la que tal vez te hablaré más adelante por aquí mismo

! [English] In addition to everything I told you, you can edit the interface of the application by theme. You can add colors, edit the font and many other things. Something that almost escaped me is that it has a timer that measures the time you use to read. You only have to press play and start reading and when you finish, you stop it. This time is added to your stats. The truth is that I don't use it much, because since I got the Kindle, I concentrate more on reading and less on my cell phone. Many times I take the cell phone to check a message and I forget to pause the timer.

Finally, I must tell you what is my real emotion with all this. I have always wanted to know how many books I have read in my life, and it would be interesting if by the end of my life I could read a large part of the best ones. I also keep a count of movies, but that's another story and a much more robust application that maybe I'll tell you more about later here.
