C02 production experiments - Sugar and Yeast
My plants benefit from the fermentation process made by mixing warm water, yeast and sugar. As it bubbles it releases carbon dioxide as the yeast consumes the sugar and turns into alcohol. While there is C02 in the air, plants uptake it and make use of it to build stronger leaves, stems and overall plant health. There are a few ways to produce C02, this is one of them.
In a future post I will share another way C02 can be made.
I have a few glass jars that I put warm water, sugar and yeast inside. Mixing it all together it starts producing gas quickly. You can smell the beer like odor it produces.
I placed a coffee filter over the jar to keep fruit flies from becoming an issue. They can be attracted to the smell.
A few hours later and the C02 is getting much higher, though we want it in the thousands. At this time the fan is on bringing in new air, and seems this is the max I can produce while exchanging air. Using a timer system I can set a fan to only come on once every so often to help trap the C02 in the grow tent.
By placing these jars in the grow tent and stopping air flow from entering I can increase the C02 by quite a bit. Using this meter I can see exactly how much the tent has in it.
Once I turned off the fan the levels shot up, now in the 1000s. Getting it close to 1300 is the goal.
We can see the bubbles forming, and it will last for a few days like this.
It is important not to overfill the jars with water as they can start foaming out the lids.. lol
The next day, 24 hours later we still have high levels of C02 the jars are putting off. I checked again a day or two after that and the levels are in the 800s still. So it could possibly last half a week before needing more sugar to be added to the yeast.

Yeah plants love it.. from what I read it helps them out quite a bit. Just too much and its not so good for us humans.

Yeah doing some experiments on Hive right now. It got pretty close.. 1300 PPM was my goal and it was just a few hundred away from that at its peak.
