Documental: Hermanos por accidente [La fantasía de la ciencia]
Los documentales están basados en historias reales pero no todos llegan a conmovernos emocionalmente o a hacer que nos planteemos preguntas importantes sobre la identidad, la familia o los azares de la vida.
"Hermanos por accidente" cuenta la historia real del intercambio, por un accidente o azar del destino, entre dos pares de mellizos. Unos mellizos nacieron en Bogotá y otros nacieron en Santander, Colombia, sin embargo, coincidieron en un hospital en Bogotá, por motivos médicos, cuando estaban recién nacidos y allí ocurrió el intercambio entre dos de ellos. Es decir, en cada par, uno de los hermanos se crió y creció con su familia biológica y el otro hermano no, debido a este intercambio.
La historia es contada de una manera maravillosa pues, así como el azar los separó, el azar también los unió. Pero este encuentro y la comprensión de cómo habían sido los hechos no fue algo sencillo para todos. Uno de ellos sí quería saber qué era de la vida de su hermano biológico, por ejemplo, pero el otro, quien supo de inmediato que había sido el intercambiado pues se veía diferente a sus hermanos, no quería saber más nada de esto. Sin embargo, la curiosidad, la búsqueda de respuestas, la identidad, las otras posibles vidas que desconocían, fueron algunas de las razones por las cuales los cuatro decidieron conocerse a profundidad, para conocer también sus historias, las que por nacimiento les correspondían.
"Hermanos por accidente" es un documental profundo, de forma cruda y sutil al mismo tiempo nos presentan las consecuencias psicológicas, legales y sociales de este intercambio y como estas afectaron la vida de 4 hombres. Cada par de hermanos creció en realidades completamente diferentes, entre la ciudad y el campo, pero en un país marcado por el conflicto y la violencia. Las emociones y sentimientos quedan registrados desde el inicio: miedo a perder lo conocido, dudas en relación a la identidad, sensación de vivir una farsa o engaño, celos por las nuevas figuras que llegan a la familia y por la sensación de perder a un hermano...
Es impresionante cómo la familia en la que nacemos y el contexto en el que crecemos influye considerablemente sobre nuestra persona. Un par de hermanos, por ejemplo, creció sin una figura paterna, pero uno de ellos sí tenía un papá vivo, en el campo, y cuando él describe este primer abrazo de "papá" a uno se le eriza la piel de pensar en lo que perdieron, pero también lo que ganaron, producto de esta situación. Y este es solo uno de los varios asuntos mencionados que hacen que uno se conocecte muchísimo con los protagonistas de esta historia.
¿Cuánto de nosotros es producto de nuestra herencia biológica y cuánto es producto del ambiente en el que crecemos? Este ha sido un dilema de la ciencia que por motivos éticos no puede investigar. Sin embargo, el intercambio entre estos hermanos presentó una perfecta oportunidad para que médicos, psicólogos y científicos expertos en la materia, como Nancy segal, analizaran este caso y nos ofrecieran algunas respuestas en el documental. No es un experimento controlado, por supuesto, pero definitivamente es el sueño de la ciencia poder tener esta posibilidad, que tuvieron, por cierto, gracias a que estos hermanos por accidente decidieron contar su historia.
"Hermanos por accidente" me hizo reír, me hizo llorar, y me dejó con una extraña sensación de cómo hay cosas que están fuera de nuestro control pero que pueden cambiar completamente nuestro destino. Entonces pienso, "Así tenía que pasar".

Documentaries are based on true stories but not all of them manage to move us emotionally or make us ask important questions about identity, family or the vagaries of life.
"Hermanos por accidente" tells the true story of the exchange, by accident or chance of fate, between two sets of twins. Some twins were born in Bogota and others were born in Santander, Colombia, however, they coincided in a hospital in Bogota, for medical reasons, when they were newborns and there occurred the exchange between two of them. That is, in each pair, one of the siblings was raised and grew up with his biological family and the other sibling was not, due to this exchange.
The story is told in a wonderful way for, just as chance separated them, chance also brought them together. But this meeting and the understanding of how the events had been was not a simple thing for all of them. One of them wanted to know what happened to his biological brother, for example, but the other, who knew immediately that he had been the one who had been exchanged because he looked different from his brothers, did not want to know anything more about it. However, curiosity, the search for answers, identity, the other possible lives they did not know about, were some of the reasons why the four decided to get to know each other in depth, to also know their stories, the ones that by birth corresponded to them.
"Hermanos por accidente" is a deep documentary, in a raw and subtle way at the same time we are presented with the psychological, legal and social consequences of this exchange and how these affected the lives of 4 men. Each pair of brothers grew up in completely different realities, between the city and the countryside, but in a country marked by conflict and violence. Emotions and feelings are registered from the beginning: fear of losing what is known, doubts about identity, the feeling of living a farce or deception, jealousy for the new figures that come into the family and the feeling of losing a brother....
It is impressive how the family in which we are born and the context in which we grow up have a considerable influence on our person. One pair of brothers, for example, grew up without a father figure, but one of them did have a living dad, in the field, and when he describes this first hug from "dad" it makes one's skin crawl to think of what they lost, but also what they gained, as a result of this situation. And this is just one of the many issues mentioned that make you get to know the protagonists of this story very well.
How much of us is a product of our biological inheritance and how much is a product of the environment in which we grow up? This has been a dilemma that science, for ethical reasons, cannot investigate. However, the exchange between these siblings presented a perfect opportunity for doctors, psychologists and scientists who are experts in the field, such as Nancy Segal, to analyze this case and offer us some answers in the documentary. It's not a controlled experiment, of course, but it's definitely the dream of science to be able to have this possibility, which they had, by the way, thanks to the fact that these brothers by accident decided to tell their story.
"Brothers by Accident" made me laugh, it made me cry, and it left me with a strange feeling of how there are things that are out of our control but can completely change our destiny. Then I think, "This is how it was meant to happen."

Me llama mucho la atención la forma en que el documental explora el dilema entre herencia genética y entorno en la formación de la personalidad. Es fascinante que este caso real haya brindado a los expertos la oportunidad de analizar esa dinámica. Definitivamente es un tema que genera muchas preguntas..
Siii, me encantó como le dieron todo el protagonismo a la historia real, pero también nos quedamos dentro del mismo documental con la opinión de científicos, médicos, abogados.
